Dublin, Ohio - Rebounding from a trouble-filled run in the recent Tecate
SCORE Baja 1000, the Castrol sponsored Lucas Baja Racing team is hoping to
change their luck during the Baja Protruck Cup event at Glen Helen Raceway
on December 9th.
"The Baja 1000 is such a challenging event. There were 445 race entries in
this year's race and nearly half of them did not finish," said team
co-driver Eric Place.
Recounting the bad luck experienced at this year's event, Place said, "We
were running well and our speed was good, but we managed to find trouble.
The dusty conditions created by a truck that we were about to overtake
caused us to end up on our side in a large hole. It was like an
earthquake. We were stuck on our side for a quite a while until we could
dig ourselves out and get pulled out of the crevasse," Place said. "We were
forced to start the truck on many attempts to get ourselves out of our
predicament. Unfortunately, being on our side "leaned" the carburetor out
dramatically and blew the engine."
With the season's toughest event now behind them, the Castrol Ford team
hopes to use the event at Glen Helen to turn their luck around. In stark
contrast to the wide open spaces of the Baja peninsula, this 2-hour event
will take place on a 3-mile off road course in Devore, California.
Featuring all of the exciting challenges of off-road racing, this unique
event adds a head-to-head challenge in front of an enthusiastic, southern
California crowd. Additional information on Glen Helen can be found at

The 2006 Tecate SCORE Baja 500 will air on NBC Sports this Saturday at 2:00
p.m. (EST). The 2006 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 will air on NBC Sports Sunday,
Dec. 10 at 2:30 p.m. (EST).
The team is also formally announcing its plans to run the full Best in the
Desert schedule in 2007 along with the Tecate SCORE Baja 500 and Baja 1000
in the top class of all off road racing, Trophy Trucks.
"Running the Pro Truck this year has been a terrific learning experience for
myself and our whole team," said team driver Chris Lucas. "I am really
looking forward to the challenges of racing in the Trophy Truck class."
