OFCOM Legislation Change May Result in Consumer Dissatisfaction Claims Progressive ICE

Changes to FM micro transmitter legislation implemented by OFCOM on December 8th 2006 will increase propensity for consumers to connect portable audio devices to their cars.
According to an OFCOM Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA), the changes could result in a retail opportunity of up to GBP28.4 million based upon an addressable market of 8.75 million MP3 players in the UK.
iPod and MP3 car-integration company Progressive ICE welcomes the change in legislation as it opens up a new world of possibilities to a larger number of customers.
The company has set up a brand new website - www.iPlaymycar.com through which it will sell CE-marked FM transmitters alongside fully integrated in-car iPod solutions and will incentivise consumers to upgrade to fully integrated products by offering iTunes vouchers in return for certain FM transmitters including those made by Belkin, Griffin and Monster regardless of where purchased.
Lee Harris, Managing Director says, "Although previously illegal to use, we know of many consumers who have purchased and quickly become dissatisfied with FM transmitters due to poor sound reproduction and the questionable reliability of some low cost products. We are concerned that unscrupulous retailers will represent this method of connection as a panacea, we very much want consumers to adopt more elegant, integrated solutions like those already offered by major car manufacturers such as BMW and VW."
www.iPlaymycar.com allows consumers to select specific products for their car using a "configurator", interfacing directly with the DVLA database ensuring that they are only offered products suitable for the make and model of their car.
