Reno Sparks Lithia Dealerships Raise Money for Local Charity
Evelyn Mount Community Outreach Food Drive program to receive $17,000
RENO, Nev., Nov. 17 -- Each Thanksgiving, American families gather together for celebration. And, although many families have different reasons to be thankful, the Reno Sparks Lithia dealership family believes that the one universal Thanksgiving tradition is the sharing of wonderful, delicious food. Unfortunately, not all area families have the resources required for an elaborate meal. That's why the local Lithia dealerships have raised over $17,000 to support the Evelyn Mount Community Outreach program to provide a holiday meal to area residents.
Through Evelyn Mount's Community Outreach program, countless volunteers have helped provide holiday meals for thousands of Reno and Sparks families. The program was launched by Evelyn Mount and her late husband, Leon 30 years ago; and thanks to the generosity of Reno and Sparks community residents, it has grown from a two person operation into a food distribution powerhouse that will provide meals to over 9,000 area families this year alone!
"It's inspiring to see a home grown organization like Evelyn Mount's Community Outreach Food Drive make such a meaningful impact," said Randy Goldman, Multi Store Manager of the Reno/Sparks Lithia stores. The program's success is due to Evelyn and Leon's personal efforts as well as the support of the entire community. Our Lithia stores knew we wanted to join the team and help deliver a Thanksgiving to our friends in need."
"We are so incredibly appreciative of all of the support we receive," said Evelyn Mount. "Individuals bring so much food to the table. What happens, on occasion, is that we get too much of one item while not getting enough of something else. A cash contribution like Lithia is making allows us to go out and buy whatever food items we need in order to deliver complete meals. For Lithia to contribute $17,000 is simply phenomenal!"
The Evelyn Mount Community Outreach program was first established in 1976 when the Mounts moved into Reno and quickly discovered that there were no food services to help the community's underprivileged. It started small with the Mounts feeding about 25 families with food they cooked in their own kitchen. With the Mounts' unrelenting drive and insurmountable compassion, the project quickly grew with the help of local volunteers and donations. To this day, Evelyn Mount continues to be at the forefront of the food drives each year and takes pride in planning, preparing and supplying thousands of meals and gift baskets to needy citizens in the area.
The participating Lithia dealerships are: Lithia Subaru of Reno, Lithia VW of Reno, Lithia Hyundai of Reno, Lithia Lincoln Mercury Audi Isuzu of Reno, Lithia Chrysler Jeep of Reno and Lithia Suzuki of Sparks. The program set aside a specific donation from each of these dealerships.
