Topical courses including urban planning and petroleum engineering in the spotlight at GETEX Abu Dhabi
November 14, 2006
As the second edition of GETEX Abu Dhabi (Global Education & Training Exhibition) gathers momentum, there is increasing evidence that education providers are recognising the importance of providing courses that link into the UAE and the region's market requirements for professional resources in the coming years. This emerging trend at GETEX sees a series of topical courses such as urban planning and petroleum engineering taking centre stage.
"While GETEX Abu Dhabi as a platform to reach out to students for spring admissions has been highly successful, we have registered another encouraging trend," said Anselm Godhino, Managing Director of IC&E, organisers of GETEX. "With an extended line up of universities and training institutions, including well-renowned local, regional and international education providers, this year's exhibition is significant in that much a larger number than ever before of higher education institutions are bringing in several courses that are very pertinent to Middle Eastern markets. This highlights the increased importance that education providers and curriculum designers are giving to providing studying options suited to needs of the UAE and the region,"
Leading the way in providing market specific courses are Abu Dhabi University and ALHOSN University, which have both signed up to participate in the 2006 edition of GETEX Abu Dhabi. These universities and will be looking to target students with a variety of tailored academic and vocational options.
According to Professor Abdul-Rahim Sabouni, Vice Chancellor, ALHOSN University in Abu Dhabi, "GETEX Abu Dhabi 2006 promises to be an exciting platform to showcase our varied academic programs. For instance, ALHOSN University offers Urban Planning, which offers a systematic yet creative framework to address social, physical and economic problems of neighbourhoods, cities, suburbs and metropolitan areas. The rapid development of the UAE and the mushrooming of new suburbs and developments are catalysing demand for a generation of graduates that have the ability to address issues related to rapid expansion. Further, we are also offering Industrial and Petroleum Engineering academic courses, which are also highly relevant to the region's oil driven and rapidly industrializing economies."
The Abu Dhabi University is returning to GETEX Abu Dhabi 2006 after a successful 2005 showing. "Our GETEX participation is in keeping with our commitment of active involvement in local and regional education. We will be showcasing our state of the art new campus in Khalifa City, and raise awareness of our newly announced Bachelor degrees in English, Public Relations and Communications, Accounting, and Information Systems Technology", said Professor Reynold Macpherson, Chancellor, Abu Dhabi University.
"GETEX Abu Dhabi will also emphasise on higher education courses in management, medicine, information technology and e-learning and will highlight new methods of study including real time e-learning solutions. There will also be a segment for Human Resources Development and Corporate Training segment, which will highlight specialist training programmes aimed at improving employees' performance," Godhino added.
Held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the UAE Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research, GETEX Abu Dhabi 2006 will be held at the Beach Rotana Hotel and Towers, Abu Dhabi from November 24 to 26, 2006.
