SSP Announces Point Fund Awards for Saturday Night Divisions; Turkey 200 This Saturday
NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (November 9, 2006) - The 2007 season for the Super Sportsman, Late Models and Street Stocks will prove to be one of the most exciting ever as another major announcement has just been released from the ownership at the Susquehanna Speedway Park. More than $20,000 in cash awards for the point fund will be up for grabs for the top twenty positions in all three divisions. Many more announcements will be forthcoming throughout the offseason as SSP ownership and management is committed to continuously improving the racing programs held at the Susquehanna Speedway Park for the future.
The Champion of the Super Sportsman will receive $2,000 for the top prize, $1,000 will go to the Late Model Champions and $750 to the Street Stock Champion. Twentieth spot in each division will pay $200. Drivers will also have the opportunity to exchange their point fund earnings for a complimentary season pit pass for the 2008 season valued at more than $475.00. In order to collect the point fund awards and honors at the season-ending awards ceremony, the driver must compete in at least 80% of the events held on the 23 race schedule.
The opening night of racing for the 2007 season will be Thursday, April 5 featuring the 410 Sprint Cars (4 races), ARDC wingless Midgets (12 races) and Xtreme Stock Cars (19 races). The event will be followed by the beginning of weekly Saturday night racing on April 7 featuring the Super Sportsman (23 races), Late Models (23 races) and Street Stocks (23 races). Other divisions on the 2007 schedule include the ASCS Sprint Cars (15 races), Legends Cars (12 races), Classic Cars (9 races - tentative until 11/11/06), Penn Mar Vintage Cars (8 races), Women on Wheels Stock Cars (8 races), Four Cylinder Stock Cars (8 races), Mini Vans (15 races), 600cc Micro Sprints (2 races), Great American School Buses (6 races) and Lincoln Thundercars (1 race). The detailed 2007 schedule of events at the Susquehanna Speedway Park should be finalized with special promotions and released by the end of December.
The standard starting times for Saturday and Sunday racing will be pit gates open at 3:30 p.m; grandstand gates open at 4:00 p.m. and racing beginning at 6:00 p.m. The time schedules for Thursday night racing and special events will be announced.
Turkey 200 to be held on Saturday, November 11, 2006
The next racing event at SSP will be in two weeks with the 3rd Annual Turkey 200 Enduro on Saturday afternoon, November 11. As a bonus, the Great American School Buses, Classic Cars and Mini Vans will take to the track before the 200 lap Enduro event. Fans will also be given complimentary school bus rides around the track at 12:15 p.m. The Enduro event will follow the specifications for the Xtreme Stock Car division that ran weekly at SSP during the 2006 season.
The Turkey 200 event will be 200 laps regardless of the number of entries. The purse payout will be based on entry numbers: 75 or more entries: 1. $1,000.00; 2. $600.00; 3. $500.00; 4. $350.00; 5. $250.00 / 61 - 74 entries: 1. $700.00; 2. $500.00; 3. $400.00; 4. $300.00; 5. $200.00 / 51 - 60 entries: 1. $600.00; 2. $400.00; 3. $300.00; 4. $200.00; 5. $150.00 / 41 - 50 entries: 1. $500.00; 2. $300.00; 3. $200.00; 4. $150.00; 5. $100.00 / 31 - 40 entries: 1. $400.00; 2. $200.00; 3. $150.00; 4. $100.00; 5. $ 75.00 / 30 or less entries: 1. $300.00; 2. $150.00; 3. $100.00; 4. $ 75.00; 5. $ 50.00
Race procedures will be described at the mandatory driver's meeting at 12:30 p.m. In keeping with "traditional" Enduro racing, the red and yellow flags will be used sparingly at the official's discretion if the track becomes blocked or a driver is in a precarious position. Each team must provide its own scorer for the event.
Pre-entry for the event is encouraged but not mandatory. A Pre-entry fee is $50.00 and must be postmarked by Friday, November 3, 2006. All entries postmarked on or after November 4, 2006 will be $75.00. Entries will be taken on the day of the event. The starting positions for the Turkey 200 will be aligned through a blind draw at the pit gate on the day of the event. As a special bonus, all pre-entrants will be able to draw a second time for a starting position if he or she does not like their first draw for position. However, the entrant must take the second drawn spot regardless of whether or not it is a better starting position. Gates will open for both the pit area and grandstand area at 11:00 a.m. with racing action beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Grandstand ticket prices are $12.00 for adults and teens (13 years of age and older) and children (12 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a minimum age requirement of 14 years of age.
