Radisson Hotel Corning Continues Partnership: The Radisson Hotel
Corning has renewed their partnership with Watkins Glen International
and will continue to serve as the "Official Hotel" of the Watkins Glen
Grand Prix, July 6-8. The renowned hotel has been the "Official Hotel"
of a variety of events, starting with the ARCA/NASCAR Busch Series
weekend in 2001. The agreement moved to the Sahlen's Six Hours of The
Glen Rolex Sports Car Series race weekend (2002-2005) and then
transferred to the IndyCar Series weekend when the two events merged in
2006.
This year the Watkins Glen Grand Prix returns to the legendary 3.4-mile
road course on its third date in as many years. The Indy Pro Series,
Historic Grand Prix and Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series will also take on
the historic long-course during the weekend. The Soul of American Road
Racing will offer a variety of 4th of July-themed fan activities at the
track including a large fireworks display to celebrate Independence Day.
The Radisson is located at 125 Denison Parkway in historic downtown
Corning, making it a perfect place to stay to enjoy the Finger Lakes
region and other unique area attractions. For more information and to
make reservations call (607) 962-5000.
Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen to run on Saturday, June 9th: The green
flag will drop on the 26th running of the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen
on Saturday, June 9, 2007. Track officials and the Rolex Sports Car
Series will move the main event from Sunday to Saturday to give fans the
opportunity to see all of the great racing action earlier in the
weekend. Practice and qualifying will still be held on Friday, with the
traditional six hour sports car endurance race taking place on Saturday
afternoon and into the early evening. Campers and ticket holders will be
allowed to enter The Soul of American Road Racing on Friday, June 8 at
6:00 am and can stay until Sunday, June 10th. Additional weekend
support series races and a complete weekend schedule of events will be
announced at a later date.
Upstate New York Universities Learn from The Glen: This past summer,
Watkins Glen International welcomed students from Ithaca College and
SUNY Cortland to discuss sports marketing at the historic road course.
During the past two weeks the WGI Marketing Staff brought The Glen to
the classrooms of Ithaca College and Syracuse University to continue
their relationship with institutions of higher learning in Upstate New
York and work on track internship opportunities.
Scott Swimley, Ticket Manager and Ryan Lake, Media Relations
Coordinator were panelists at the 2006 Careers in Sport Symposium at
Ithaca College on Saturday, October 28. They spoke with two groups of
students about their positions, experiences, backgrounds and the role of
integrated marketing in motorsports. The symposium was sponsored by the
Ithaca College Department of Sport Management and Media and provided the
opportunity for students to receive an overview of careers within the
sport industry.
Andy Longenberger, Manager of Sales and New Business
Development, and Eiron Smith, Sr. Manager of Public Relations, traveled
to the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse
University on Monday, November 6. They spoke during a class titled
"Principle of Sales in Sport" to a classroom of 50 students consisting
mostly of juniors and seniors interested in pursuing sports marketing as
a career. Longenberger focused his presentation on the many unique
levels of sponsorship within the motorsports industry, while Smith
identified sponsorship activation examples and how these partnerships
can help create additional exposure for track events.

American Road Racing and the first phase of the repaving project, in

FrontStretch Grandstand is tentatively scheduled to begin in two weeks,
weather permitting. The foundation work should be completed by the end
of November while the remainder of the project is expected to be
completed in the Spring.
