DETROIT - November 7, 2007: As part of a new merit badge program, today’s Girl Scouts are learning the importance of vehicle maintenance and how to perform standard tasks like oil changes and checking tire pressure. While the cadets are to young to drive a car, program participants say they are never to young to learn about the vehicle they are riding in.

Auto manufacturers like General Motors are hosting several clinics at dealerships throughout the U.S. where cadets can earn their “Car Sense Badge.” GM officials say the program is also a way to teach young girls about non-traditional career and the employment opportunities available for women.
