CARPENTIER THIRD QUICKEST AT DAYTONA (05)
Day 1 Test Report from Daytona International Speedway
CARPENTIER THIRD QUICKEST IN THE R0LEX SERIES TEST AT DAYTONA
Montréal, QC - November 6, 2006 -Patrick
Carpentier turned in third quickest time in the
first of the two-day test sessions held Monday at
Daytona International Speedway. The Las Vegas
(NV) resident drove his SAMAX Motorsport Pontiac
Riley Daytona Prototype around the 5.72-kilometer
(3.56-mile) road course in 1 minute 44.215
seconds, half a second from the day's leader Max
Angelelli of Italy (1:43.728 at 198.840 km/h),
and one- hundredth of second behind Patrick Long
of Oak Park, California (1:44.202). Fourth place
went to 18-year old Colin Braun of Ovalo Texas.
Last season, Braun became the youngest winner of
a major league auto race in North America at the
age of 17 when he won the Rolex Series race at
the 14-turn road course of the Daytona
International Speedway in June.
Carpentier joined Florida-based SAMAX Motorsport
last October for his first full season of Daytona
Prototype competition. Over the course of the
2007 14-race schedule, he will partner with
three-time Rolex Series race winner Milka Duno of
Venezuela. In Monday's test session, he shared
the car with Duno. The first series-sanctioned
pre-season test session drew 40 cars, which
included 22 Daytona Prototypes.
"I went out three times today and the car felt
better each time," Carpentier said. "We only used
one set of fresh rubber at the end of the day and
it was then that I was able to post my best time.
Everyone on the SAMAX Team is happy with the
day's results. Of course, every time I get to
drive the car, I feel more at ease. This is also
my third time on this track with this type of
car. The weather conditions were not the best
today, but it was the same for everyone. I will
only do a partial day on Tuesday as newcomer Ryan
Dalziel is coming in for his first test with the
team."
On Tuesday, Carpentier will do a short stint in
the morning session before ceding his seat to
Ryan Dalziel of Scotland and Milka Duno of
Venezuela. Both of these drivers will share the
SAMAX Motorsport Pontiac Riley with Carpentier at
the 2007 Daytona 24-Hour Rolex Series season
opener January 27-28.
The Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series will
make its first appearance August 3 at Montreal's
Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve for a 400-kilometer
race. The Montreal race weekend will feature the
first-ever NASCAR Busch Series race held in
Canada.
