Volvo Looks to Aid Ford Turnaround with Several Model Launches

Washington DC November 2, 2006; The AIADA newsletter reported that the success of Ford's attempt to turnaround the company may be contingent on its Volvo unit, which is seeking a revival of its own with the launch of seven new models and redesigned versions of current models over the next four years – the most intensive launch activity in Volvo's nearly 80-year history, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Reviving Volvo is important to rejuvenating Ford, whose sales and U.S. market share are shrinking as a result of an over-reliance on large trucks and SUVs. Among the new vehicles on the way: a two-door compact model called the C30 and a sportier version of the brand's flagship S80 sedan.
"Our best contribution for our selves, as well as Ford, is to develop this brand into a success," said Volvo CEO Fredrik Arp, in an interview. "We're very committed to delivering a return on investment for our parent."
