LAS VEGAS--Unwired Vehicles, Inc. (www.unwiredvehicles.com) today unveiled the UVIA M100 mobile infotainment device for aftermarket installers at the 2006 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) trade show. Using high-speed mobile broadband, the M100 provides rear seat passengers access to video, music, games, email, chat programs, web browsing and more. Predator Motorsports will be showcasing the UVIA M100 rear seat infotainment package from Unwired Vehicles during the SEMA trade show in Las Vegas, NV, in the South Hall at booth number 30957.
The UVIA M100 uniquely leverages 3G mobile broadband connectivity to provide rear seat passengers a selection of entertainment applications along with broadband Internet access. Easily installable by aftermarket dealers, it offers DVD play, home Satellite/Cable/TiVo TV content, MP3 play, games and streaming audio. It also provides Internet access for browsing, Instant Messaging and email using a wireless keyboard.
The UVIA mobile infotainment solution relies on 3G wireless broadband and uses EV-DO (form factor) technology from Novatel Wireless. With service available from Verizon and Sprint in over 180 metropolitan areas, it provides average download speeds similar to DSL. Users typically experience download speeds of 400-700 kbps with peak speeds reaching up to 2.0 Mbps.
“Broadband wireless capability in the car is a logical next step in giving consumers high-speed mobile access to information and entertainment,” said Brad Weinert, COO and acting CEO of Novatel Wireless. “Unwired Vehicles provides an offering that cleanly integrates access to personal digital media, online digital content and information into the vehicle in a package that is designed to address the rapidly growing trend for rear seat entertainment systems.”
In conjunction with Sling Media, Unwired Vehicles is able to turn the Internet-connected UVIA M100 into a personal in-vehicle TV. The Unwired Vehicles solution leverages the Slingbox™ allowing customers to connect to their home television sources. This enables the rear seat passengers to watch cable, satellite, or personal video recorder (PVR) programming inside the car, while on the go.
“The M100 presents Slingbox owners with one more place to conveniently have their television experience while away from home," said Rich Buchanan, Vice President of Marketing for Sling Media. “Whether running errands or on the ultimate road trip, the Slingbox keeps passengers well entertained with their television favorites now in the comfort of their vehicle.”
Sling Media is providing its award winning Slingbox to be featured as a product give-away in a daily drawing in Predator’s booth at SEMA.
With an installation approach modeled on existing rear seat DVD entertainment systems, the UVIA M100 utilizes vehicle optimized hardware with Unwired Vehicles' own infotainment control software pre-installed. High quality displays are installed in either the headliner or seat headrests. A 3G wireless broadband antenna is mounted externally to increase reception quality and bandwidth throughput.
“Longer drive times, contemporary lifestyles and the need to keep kids entertained are causing the automotive rear-seat entertainment aftermarket to experience incredible growth,” said Peter Coppola, co-founder and president of Unwired Vehicles. “Ubiquitous mobile broadband connectivity is already becoming a reality. The UVIA M100 is a breakthrough Internet-enabled convergence solution designed for the aftermarket channel that opens up a broad range of infotainment options for rear seat passengers.”
Availability and Pricing
The UVIA M100 will be available in Arizona, California and Nevada in December 2006 and will be available nationally in early 2007. The M100 retails for $3,499 and requires the user to subscribe to a national mobile broadband service.
