FINKE, MANZO GET WINS AT ATCO RACEWAY'S LUCAS OIL SERIES EVENT

ATCO, N.J. - NHRA Northeast division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competitors wrapped up the 2007 schedule today at Atco Raceway. The event was the last of seven on the division calendar and Sunday's eliminations were postponed by bad weather. John Finke earned the win in Top Alcohol Dragster and Frank Manzo scored in Top Alcohol Funny Car.

Finke, who resides in Selkirk, N.Y., took on reigning division champion Arthur Gallant of Boxboro, Mass., in the final. Finke had made a 5.20-second run in the first round of eliminations, ran 5.30 second in the semis and in the final, his 5.415-second, 272.01 mph pass was more than enough to cover Gallant's 8.077-second run. Gallant was the No. 1 qualifier of the race and his best run of the weekend was 5.285-second, 271.02 mph pass in the semifinals.

Manzo's win was the icing on the cake in an outstanding year. The Morganville, N.J., racer has already clinched the divisional and national championships in Top Alcohol Funny Car and has now been to the winner's circle 10 times this season. In the final round at Atco, Manzo made a 5.609-second, 257.63 mph pas to beat Duane Beers of Monroe, N.J. Beers ran 5.943 seconds at 235.23 mph in the final round.

Lee Zane, Perry Hall, Md., earned the win in Comp Eliminator and Sam Biondo, Clarksburg, N.J., was the winner in Super Stock. In Stock Eliminator, Ed Fernandez, Old Bridge, N.J., racked up the win. Dave Muller, Ewing, N.J., was the winner in Super Comp, Ron Orbin, Pennsville, N.J., grabbed the Super Gas win, and James Neville, Franklinville, N.J., took home the trophy in Super Street.

NHRA Northeast division racers can still earn points toward divisional and national titles at the final NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event this weekend in Las Vegas.
