- Watch for children walking on roadways, medians and curbs
- Enter and exit driveways cautiously
- At twilight and later in the evening, watch for children in dark clothing
For pedestrians:
- Review all appropriate trick-or-treat safety precautions, including pedestrian/traffic safety rules
- Make costumes light and bright enough to be visible by motorists
- Have children carry flashlights or wear reflective tape on their clothing
- Enter and exit driveways cautiously, cross the street in marked crossways
- Don't let children go out without an adult or responsible older child
- Caution children against running into the street from between parked cars, across lawns, and other areas that may present danger
"Vehicle and pedestrian safety should always be taken seriously, but on Halloween it's particularly important to be alert and drive with caution," said Shawn Tucker, Content Manager, AutoTrader.com. "And with tens of millions of cars in the U.S. on the roads, it's also important for trick-or-treaters to be smart when walking around at night."
