Safety Tips for Halloween

For motorists:

• Drive slowly and stay alert in residential areas
• Watch for children darting out from between parked vehicles
• Watch for children walking on roadways, medians and curbs
• Enter and exit driveways cautiously
• At twilight and later in the evening, watch for children in dark clothing

For pedestrians:

• Review all appropriate trick-or-treat safety precautions, including pedestrian/traffic safety rules
• Make costumes light and bright enough to be visible by motorists
• Have children carry flashlights or wear reflective tape on their clothing
• Enter and exit driveways cautiously, cross the street in marked crossways
• Don't let children go out without an adult or responsible older child
• Caution children against running into the street from between parked cars, across lawns, and other areas that may present danger
