SmartCool Expands into Florida with Sale to Hellmann Perishable Logistics

SmartCool's 'Green Technology' Helps the Perishable Logistics Industry

VANCOUVER, Oct. 30 -- SmartCool Systems Inc. (TSXV: SSC), and its wholly owned subsidiary, SmartCool USA, are pleased to have completed a major sale of the SmartCool Energy Saving Module (ESM) to multinational logistics company, Hellmann Perishable Logistics (HPL).

The ESM, which is designed to reduce electricity consumption and maximize the efficiency of refrigeration and air conditioning compressors, will be installed in 10 coolers, totaling 2,850,000 cubic ft., located at HPL's global hub in Doral, Florida. HPL is also now considering installations in other HPL facilities around the world, beginning with Australia, New Zealand and England.

"HPL's decision to install the SmartCool ESM in its facility is an indication of its commitment to both fiscal and environmental responsibility," said George Burnes, President and CEO of SmartCool. "We are pleased to be working with such an industry leader and look forward to reducing the energy costs and environmental impacts of HPL's other facilities around the world"

Hellmann Perishable Logistics, a division of Hellmann Worldwide Logistics of Germany, has operations in 33 locations in 14 countries worldwide. Its services range from Air & Ocean Freight, Customs Clearance, and Warehousing & Distribution, to Quality Control, Inventory Control and Order Fulfillment. The main products handled at the global hub in Doral, Florida include produce, meat, dairy, flowers, live animals, seafood and pharmaceuticals.

"At Hellmann, environmental responsibility is demonstrated by linking ecology and economy and also by our active environmental management," said Ralf Heske, HPL Global Director. "The economic and environmental benefits provided by the SmartCool ESM fit perfectly into this principle."

This sale marks SmartCool's first major deal in Florida and the company's successful entry into another key geographic market. "There is a thriving perishable logistics industry in Florida and SmartCool's technology is a huge asset to this industry," says Chris Lefaivre, SmartCool's VP of Sales. "We're pleased be working with HPL, and hope to continue growing our presence in the Florida market."

About SmartCool Systems:

SmartCool Systems Inc. is an advanced energy savings solutions company specializing in energy and cost reduction technologies for commercial and retail businesses. The company's wholly owned subsidiary, SmartCool International Inc., is the owner, developer, manufacturer and worldwide distributor of the System 4000 Energy Saving Module (ESM)(R). This green technology reduces the electricity consumption (kWh) and maximum demand (kW) of air conditioning and refrigeration compressors. Rather than replacing existing equipment, the ESM 4000 works in conjunction with existing controls in order to ensure that compressors work at maximum efficiency, while maintaining preset temperature levels and without causing over-cycling.

Rising global energy demand is resulting in significant increases in energy prices. Environmental concerns are causing both government and industry to re-examine the way they do business. SmartCool provides companies with solutions to address the growing pressure to reduce energy costs, increase profits and reduce green house gas emissions.
