Bull Wins in Exciting Fashion at SSP's J&K Salvage Candy Bowl
Newberrytown, PA (October 29, 2006) - The Candy Bowl II presented by J&K Salvage on Sunday afternoon at the Susquehanna Speedway Park is now in the record books with Ray Bull pulling off a last lap pass on turn four to pick up the win over P.J. Garguilo. Ben Murphy was victorious in the 600cc Micro Sprint main event. Jason Rochelle showed why he is the best Legends Cars driver in the country by winning the 20-lap feature. Craig Wagaman won the Lincoln Thundercar feature. Daryl Sipe continued his winning ways in the Mini Vans as well as Kendra Knaub in the Women on Wheels Stock Cars.
The 20-lap ARDC Midgets feature may easily be classified as one of the best races of the season with Ray Bull pulling a last lap pass on P.J. Garguilo to win. A.J. Ernesto led the first 18 circuits but pushed up to the top of the track and relinquished the lead to Garguilo. Tracy Readinger finished third and was followed by Tom Hessert and last week's winner Paul Kline. Andy Martin won the ARDC season points championship by three points over Donnie Trent. However Donnie Trent was crowned the 2006 SSP Midget track champion. Heats were won by Kline, Readinger and Garguilo.
Ben Murphy started on the outside of the front row and lead every lap of the 15-lap 600cc Micro Sprint feature. Aaron Spahr finished second with Heath Hehnley following in third after starting ninth. Jon Luckenbaugh and Ryan Wilson rounded out the top five. Spahr, Murphy and Hehnley won their respective heat races.
In a feature that highlighted three 2006 INEX National Dirt Champions, Jason Rochelle the 2006 Pro Division National Champion picked up the 20 lap feature win over teammate and 2006 Masters Division National Champion, Ronnie Dunstan. Randy Kissinger followed in third with Geremy Sheaffer and Jeff Condran rounding out the top five. The 2006 Semi Pro National Dirt Champion, Steve Nederostek finished thirteenth.
In the 15-lap Speedway Auto Sales Mini Van feature Daryl Sipe wired the field from the first lap to pick up the win followed by Butch Richcreek, Brian Lefebvre, Jeff Svendsen and Kimberly Martino.
Kendra Knaub won the Women on Wheel Stock Cars feature over Karen Hawthorne.
The next event will be on Friday and Saturday, November 3 and 4 with a racecar flea market for all forms of racing. Vendor fees are $10.00 for the 2 days and setup begins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night.
The next racing event at SSP will be in two weeks with the 3rd Annual Turkey 200 Enduro on Saturday afternoon, November 11. As a bonus attraction, the Great American School Buses, Classic Cars and Mini Vans will take to the track before the 200 lap Enduro event. Fans will also be given complimentary school bus rides around the track at 12:30 p.m. The Enduro event will follow the specifications for the Xtreme Stock Car division that ran weekly at SSP during the 2006 season.
The Turkey 200 event will be 200 laps regardless of the number of entries. Pre-entry for the event is encouraged but not mandatory. A Pre-entry fee is $50.00 and must be postmarked by Friday, November 3, 2006. All entries postmarked on or after November 4, 2006 will be $75.00. Entries will be taken on the day of the event. The starting positions for the Turkey 200 will be aligned through a blind draw at the pit gate on the day of the event. As a special bonus, all pre-entrants will be able to draw a second time for a starting position if he or she does not like their first draw for position. However, the entrant must take the second drawn spot regardless of whether or not it is a better starting position. Gates will open for both the pit area and grandstand area at 11:00 a.m. with racing action beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Grandstand ticket prices are $12.00 for adults and teens (13 years of age and older) and children (12 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a minimum age requirement of 14 years of age.
The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south.
