Martin Starts Strong, Sits Seventh on Friday in Las Vegas
Event: Sixth Annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals
Day/Date: Friday, October 27, 2006
Location: The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Las Vegas, NV
Harold Martin and the ACDelco Pro Mod Pontiac Racing team faced several
challenges heading into the first day of qualifying at the ACDelco Las
Vegas NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas, NV. Entering his first AMS Staff
Leasing Challenge event in over two years, the Michigan racer would be
facing opponents who had competed on the NHRA circuit for the entire
season. In addition, as only his second race at The Strip at Las Vegas
Motor Speedway, Martin would need to quickly find the combination to
match his 2,500-horsepower to the Nevada quarter-mile.
Fortunately, Martin responded in fine fashion, recording a solid
6.255-second elapsed time with a top speed of 225.48 mph, placing him in
the seventh position with one session remaining on Saturday, a
performance that thrilled the over 4,000 ACDelco guests in attendance.
"It's all about being able to go from A to B. The track was both tricky
and good for the Pro Modified cars, so we were happy to put on a good
show in front of about 4,000 ACDelco fans, and get our ACDelco Pontiac
in the middle of the pack.
"We've got a new engine in the car, and we've been trying to learn its
characteristics. We tore it down, and it looks pretty good, so I think
there are a couple of cylinders we can lean on a little more, so we'll
see if we can improve it some more."
