Douglas Motorsports Continues to Impress at Season Finale

As Douglas Motorsports headed into the final weekend of racing in the
2006 CORR season, both of the trucks, #7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Rancho
PRO-4 and the #7 Rancho AMSOIL Kumho Tire PRO-2, had a mathematical
chance for their respective championships. Scott and his team were
very confident, as the hauler and support trailers made the quick trip
from El Cajon.

Friday

The Jason Baldwin Memorial Cup Qualifying
As a tribute to Jason Baldwin, CORR added the Jason Baldwin Memorial
Cup, as the final race of the weekend. (Jason Baldwin, CORR champion
and son of CORR owner Jim Baldwin, died in an airplane crash,
returning from the 2005 Baja 1000.) This was a 10-lap, winner take all
event, pitting the fastest PRO-4 and PRO-2 trucks against each other,
for $66,000.

On Friday afternoon, the qualifying session for the Baldwin Cup
determined the starting positions for this special event. Before
qualifying, Scott, Bill Smith (team chief engineer), and Mike
Schoffstall (PRO-4 crew chief) implemented a couple of changes to the
#7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Ford F-150. The team knows the truck is fast, but
taking the pole for this event would really make a statement and
hopefully, put the competition on their heels.

Scott came out on the track and promptly, accomplished what the team
had in mind. The clock stopped at 1 minute 7.681 seconds, awarding the
#7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Rancho Ford F-150 the pole position!

?This afternoon is all about Jason, just look at how hard everyone is
pushing their trucks in qualifying. We all make the show, there?s no
money for today?s effort, but this is how he always competed. Winning
the pole is a tribute to Jason Baldwin,? stated Scott Douglas.

The team didn?t have much time to celebrate, as the powerplant seemed
to go sour at the end of qualifying. The crew found a melted piston,
and instantly went to work installing another engine.

Saturday

PRO-2
The start saw the #7 Rancho AMSOIL Kumho Tire Ford F-150 respond
slowly off the line. On the second lap, the engine began running very
rough and a small engine fire broke out, abruptly. Scott stopped the
truck, quickly jumped out, and the CORR safety crew extinguished the
fire, before any real damage occurred. The team was credited with a
seventeenth place finish.

Suddenly, Douglas Motorsports had lost two engines to a lean
condition, even though the powerplant had been set up to run a
slightly rich fuel mixture. The team?s engine builder, Bill Schlieper,
of Pro Power Racing, determined that there was a problem with the
team?s fuel supply. To prevent the possible loss of another engine,
the team emptied the fuel cell of the PRO-4 truck, while in the
staging area, and promptly refilled with fuel from AMSOIL Kumho Tire
teammate, Mike Oberg. Everyone crossed their fingers and hoped this
solved the problem.

PRO-4
As the green flag dropped, Scott Douglas applied the pedal to the
metal, and the Pro Power engine never sounded better. The #7 Ford
F-150 grabbed the holeshot and never looked back. Scott swiftly built
up a comfortable lead as LeDuc, Huseman, and Baldwin battled for the
second position. Even when the field bunched up during the mandatory
yellow, the AMSOIL Kumho ?Super Team? PRO-4 continued to lead all the
way to the checkered flag.

?The AMSOIL Kumho Super Team machine just flies,? commented Scott
Douglas. ?We were really concerned before the race about the engine,
but our engine builder, Bill Schlieper, determined we had a bad barrel
of fuel. Thankfully, we were able to borrow fuel from Mike Oberg, and
my team drained and refueled the fuel cell in an instant. The Kumho
Tires are just awesome.?

Saturday night the team, went through their between rounds prep
routine for the final time of the year. In Chula Vista, the checklist
takes a little longer, as the hard packed desert track seems to cause
more stress on the trucks, than the race venues back in the Midwest.

Sunday

PRO-2
After the early exit in round 15, the #7 Rancho Ford was eliminated
from contention for the top spot in the season championship point
standings. The team?s goal for the final round of the season was to
run strong, and stay out of the way of the three competitors fighting
for the championship.

The start had Scott running mid-pack, as the field entered Turn One.
On lap nine, the mandatory yellow came out and Douglas Motorsports
held the eighth position.

When green flag racing resumed, the Rancho Ford rapidly moved up to
the third spot. With two laps to go, the truck lost its rear brakes.
During the same lap, Scott bobbled, allowing #80 Oberg, and #77
Vandenhuvel, to move past. At the finish it was 1st- Todd LeDuc, 2nd ?
Mike Oberg, 3rd ? Steve Barlow, 4th ? Dan Vandenhuvel, 5th ? Scott
Douglas.

The final 2006 CORR PRO-2 standings
1st ? Carl Renezeder 174pts.
2nd ? Mike Oberg 172 pts.
3rd ? Todd LeDuc 166 pts.
4th ? Scott Taylor 150 pts.
4th ? Jerry Whelchel 150 pts
6th ? Scott Douglas 146 pts
7th ? Steve Barlow 145 pts.

PRO-4
Scott and the crew were looking for another back -to-back winning
weekend, as the #7 AMSOIL Kumho Super Team truck headed for staging.
Johnny Greaves clinched the championship, on Saturday, but taking
second place in the championship point standings was a real possibility.

The landrush start had Scott and his #7 Ford F-150 in fifth place,
heading down the front stretch. At the end of lap 2, the Kumho Tires
were really putting the Pro Power to the ground, as Scott moved up to
the third spot. The next seven laps, leading up to the mandatory
caution period, saw an epic battle between the top four racers.
Renezeder, Greaves, Huseman, and Scott Douglas were all nose to tail,
passing each other back and forth, trying to get to the front.

When racing resumed, Renezeder had moved to the back of the line,
after replacing a flat tire, but the top three were still running
close together. In fact, Scott made contact with Huseman, as the two
flew over the ?ski hill? jump. Somehow, the #7 spun out without
rolling over, but did flatten a tire. With only three laps to go,
Scott decided to run on the flat to the finish. Although CORR allows
three laps on a flat tire, before a penalty is assessed, CORR
officials insisted Scott come in to change the tire, or not be scored
for the round.

Reluctantly, Scott came in for the tire change. In the process, he
lost one lap, and was scored back to fifth place, at the finish.

The final 2006 CORR PRO-4 standings
1st ? Johnny Greaves 222 pts.
2nd ? Carl Renezeder 194 pts.
3rd ? Scott Douglas 191 pts.
4th ? Josh Baldwin 168 pts.
5th ? Curt LeDuc 164 pts.

?This AMSOIL Rancho Kumho Tire Ford F-150 has come a long way, since
the beginning of the year. We knew it would be fast, we just needed
some time to get the setup right in the chassis. Congratulations to
Johnny Greaves, for winning the championship. We just missed grabbing
the second spot for the year. At one point, early in the race, we were
running in third place, and my spotter, Bill Smith, said we were in
position for second, in points. Then I got conservative on the track,
and boom! A couple of guys passed me. Then we got back up to third
place. Suddenly, I found myself thinking about getting around Huseman
and challenging Johnny for the lead. Then I got the flat, trying to
make a pass, and we end up third for the year. We will definitely take
it. The second half of the year has just been awesome; the incredible
weekend in Crandon, and the win here and at Bark River. We?ve got the
Cup race later today. All the money and no worry about points.? ?
comments from Scott Douglas in his pit area.

The Jason Baldwin Memorial Cup

The final shootout of the year had Scott Douglas and his AMSOIL Kumho
?Super Team? Ford F-150 on the pole.

The landrush start had Scott grab the PRO-4 holeshot and by the second
lap, he had already passed six of the ten front running PRO-2 trucks.
Without warning, the power steering completely failed and the season
ended on lap three.

Crestfallen, Scott began watching the conclusion of the race from the
Pit Area Jumbotron, cheering on fellow AMSOIL Kumho Tire team member,
Mike Oberg.

When Oberg made the final pass, on the last lap, for the win, Scott
was the first person to offer congratulations.

The Championship Off-Road Racing season is over, but you can see the
#7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Ford F-150 on display at the 2006 SEMA Show,
October 31 - November 3 in Las Vegas. The truck, as well as, the
BorgWarner Manufacturers Trophy, will be showcased at the Kumho Tire
display.

Scott would like to thank all his supporters including: Rancho
