Turn One Performance Plans to Go the Distance This Time

Turn One Performance Plans to Go the Distance This
Time

(Charles Town, WV): In June’s 12 Hours at the Point,
the victory hopes of Charles Town-based Turn One
Performance Services vanished in a cloud of steam and
oil smoke. Despite their bad luck the team is again
competing in an endurance race for automobiles. This
time, instead of circulating at local Summit Point
Raceway, Turn One is heading to Danville, Virginia to
compete in the 13 Hour Charge of the Headlight Brigade
held at historic Virginia International Raceway.

“Endurance racing is something new for us. We usually
do sprint races lasting less than 35 minutes and a pit
stop means your day is pretty much done.” said team
member Jeff Janoska of Wheaton, Maryland. According to
Janoska, the team is a regular competitor in the
Summit Point-based Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Series.
The series has been based at Summit Point for over 30
years and has seen a number of national champions get
their start.

“This year was a great year for Turn One,” said Roger
Troxell, team principal and the mechanical genius
behind the team. The team won eight of nine series
races and three drivers in the top five championship
standings. Troxell, who won three of the last four
races in his mid-1980s Honda Civic added, “The team
worked well together, both on the track and pulling
together when work needed to be done.”

This was the second consecutive year that a Turn One
car won the ITC Championship. “2006 was a great year
for me and the team. For me, I repeated as champion
and took my second Summit Point victory. For the team,
we accomplished most of what we set out to do.” said
John Burkhard, the repeat champion.

Beth Burkhard, who is married to John and who placed
second in the championship, was pleased with how the
year turned out. “This was the first year for the car
and, given the usual problems with a new car,
finishing second makes me very happy.” The team still
is in its infancy and according to Beth, “I think it
is safe to say that everyone on the team took their
first steps this year.”

Only four of the team drivers – both Burkhards, Martin
Burk and Jeff Janoska – will be driving in the
endurance race. Burk, perhaps the most experienced
driver on the team in night driving took two victories
during 2006. Janoska, in his rookie year, will be
making his first appearance in an endurance race.

According to Troxell, “An endurance race requires a
great deal of strategy and planning and I felt it was
best for the team if I pulled the strings for this
race.” Replacing the Troxell for this race will be
Chris Fox of Gaithersburg, Maryland and holder of two
Summit Point lap records. “Chris jumped right in when
we asked her to join us. I’m feeling pretty good about
our line-up,” added Troxell.

The team was unanimous when asked if they thought they
would achieve their goal for the endurance race. “Our
goal is to enjoy what we’re doing and I think we’ve
got that pretty well covered.”
