Champions Tour Golfers Haas, Gilder and Edwards
Trade Clubs for Karts at Infineon Raceway, Oct. 24
WHAT:
Champions Tour golfers Jay Haas, Bob Gilder and David Edwards will visit
Infineon Raceway's world-class 16-turn, three-quarter mile karting
center for a few spins around the course. This event is being held in
conjunction with the Charles Schwab Cup Championship at the Sonoma Golf
Club (Oct. 24-29).
WHEN:
Tuesday, Oct. 24, 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
WHERE:
Infineon Raceway Karting Center, Highways 37 & 121, Sonoma, Calif.
WHO:
Jay Haas: Nine-time PGA TOUR winner and six-time Champions Tour winner.
Has won four times on the Champions Tour in 2006, including his first
major championship at the Senior PGA Championship in May. Currently
leads the Champions Tour official money list with $2,266,427 and the
season-long Charles Schwab Cup points race. Collects Ford Mustangs and
is an auto enthusiast.
Bob Gilder: Six-time PGA TOUR winner and nine-time Champions Tour
winner. Notched his first victory of the 2006 Champions Tour season
last month at the Constellation Energy Classic in Baltimore. Lists auto
racing as one of his interests outside of golf.
David Edwards: Won four times on the PGA TOUR before turning 50 this
April and joining the Champions Tour. Has eight top-10 finishes in his
rookie year, including his first victory this past August at the 3M
Championship in Minneapolis. Also lists auto racing as one of his
interests outside of golf.
VISUAL ELEMENTS:
The golfers will be fitted in racesuits and helmets, and receive
classroom instruction before being cut loose on the world-class track in
race-prepared karts, which are capable of reaching 80 mph. The entire
event, including classroom instruction, will be overseen by instructors
from the Jim Russell Racing School, which is based at Infineon Raceway.
After two brief practice sessions around the track, the golfers will
take part in a 10-minute timed lapping period. The golfer who produces
the best single-lap time will be declared the winner and will be given a
special gift from the raceway.
Following their laps, the golfers may take part in a chipping contest
into the seat of a go-kart or head to the putting green located above
Turn 4 on the Infineon Raceway road course.
