"NEXTEL Most Dramatic Moment" Heads into Round 2

Gordon and Kenseth tangle at bristol" AS finalist in "Nextel most dramatic moment" Round 2 voting in progress RESTON, Va. ¯ Oct. 19, 2006 ¯ Sprint Nextel announced today fans have voted "Jeff Gordon and Matt Kenseth tangle at Bristol" into the final round of voting for the "NEXTEL Most Dramatic Moment," the only fan award announced during the annual NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Awards Ceremony and an award that epitomizes NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series racing excitement at its best. The award will be presented live during the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Awards Ceremony, Dec. 1, on TNT. Round 2 voting begins today as fans will once again select a moment from five pre-determined moments from the 2006 season (see round 2 moments below). The voting process for the 2006 moment changed to empower fans with a louder voice in deciding the award. The process now includes the initial round of voting throughout the Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup to decide two finalists leading into the culminating event on Dec. 1. Throughout the Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup, fans can access exclusive coverage and commentaries through Web-enabled Sprint or Nextel handsets. Here, fans also can quickly place their vote for their favorite dramatic moment and vote as often as they like. Round 2 dramatic moments include: * Denny Hamlin captures his first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series win at Pocono * Jeff Burton returns to Victory Lane for the first time in nearly five years * Jimmie Johnson starts the Chase for the NEXTEL Cup with a wreck at New Hampshire * Carl Edwards is the victim when Tony Stewart and Clint Bowyer bang fenders at Pocono * Brian Vickers spins Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. and scores his first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series victory The remaining voting process is as follows: Round 2 Voting Round 2 voting for the NEXTEL Most Dramatic Moment begins Oct. 18 with five moments going head-to-head for fans to decide one finalist for advancement to the final round to join the selected moment from round 1. -More- Final Round Voting Following the season-ending Ford 400 event at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 19, the fan-identified moments, plus moments best capturing the drama of the 2006 Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup championship will be voted on by fans to identify the 2006 NEXTEL Most Dramatic Moment. Final-round voting begins Nov. 20 and will conclude Dec. 1.
