WASHINGTON DC October 18, 2006; The AIADA newsletter reported that this year's Top 10 list of vehicles with the best fuel economy, released by the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy, includes seven Toyota and Honda models, with the Toyota Prius topping the list at 60 mpg city/51 mpg highway.

The Honda Civic Hybrid came in second with 49 mpg city/51 highway, and the Toyota Camry made its debut at No. 3, with 40 mpg city/38 mpg highway.

Six gas-only vehicles made the Top 10: manual and automatic versions of the Toyota Yaris, the manual version of the Honda Fit, the manual Toyota Corolla and manual versions of the Hyundai Accent and Kia Rio, reports The Associated Press.

A report from the EPA last summer said the average fuel economy for 2006 vehicles was 21 mpg, lower than the peak of 22.1 mpg in 1987-88.
