No. 40 TEAM FACTS:
* Rookie of the Race: Last weekend in Charlotte rookie David
Stremme battled for 334 laps to bring home his second-highest finish of
the season, 15th. His top-15 finish also won him the Raybestos Rookie
of the Race Award for the first time this season.
* Chassis: Crew Chief Steve Lane and the No. 40 crew are taking
chassis No. 615 for the event this weekend. Stremme has piloted this
car to 26th and 20th-place finishes at Richmond and Loudon respectively.
* Testing 1,2,3...Stremme, along with his Chip Ganassi Racing
with Felix Sabates teammates Casey Mears, Juan Pablo Montoya and Reed
Sorenson, is testing at Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS) this week. The
HMS test is the final session of the NASCAR determined testing schedule
of seven tracks for 2006. Sorenson and Mears (Oct. 16 & 17), Montoya
and Stremme (Oct. 17 & 18).
*Note: Sorenson led the first session on Monday with a lap time of
31.459 sec./171.652 mph. His teammate Mears led the second session on
Monday with a lap time of 31.200 sec./173.077 mph.
* Earlier this Season: Back in April, Stremme was battling to get
his lap back when on lap 134 he was turned from behind and sent into the
outside wall. After spending several laps in the garage and returning
to the track twice, he finished the DirecTV 500 at Martinsville Speedway
in the 38th position.
* Looking Ahead to Martinsville: This will be Stremme's second
start at Martinsville Speedway. He was caught up in an accident the
first race this season but before that he gained his short-track
experience at New Paris Speedway in Indiana. The .25-mile track is
located 36 miles from South Bend, Ind., where Stremme grew up.
* Rookie Ranks: Stremme is currently sixth in the Raybestos
Rookie of the Year standings. With 153 points, he is 113 points behind
leader Denny Hamlin and only 27 points behind fifth-place J.J Yeley.
* NASCAR NEXTEL Cup points standings: Stremme is currently 34th
in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup driver standings and the No. 40 Dodge is 34th
in the owner standings. There are now five races remaining in the 2006
season.
David Stremme Quote:
"The Charlotte race was a good race for us. The No. 40 crew worked hard
and pit strategy seemed to really help us stay up toward the front of
the field. I really thought we had a top-10 car but we got caught two
laps down when the caution came out before the green flag pit stops had
cycled through. We are happy that we brought home a 15th-place finish
and hopefully we will continue this weekend with another solid finish.
"We had a rough race at Martinsville back in April. We started at the
back of the field and that place, like Bristol, is hard to gain track
position when you start so far back. On top of that we had an incident
that sent us behind the wall so we were unable to get a good finish.
Hopefully that is not the case this time, the goal this weekend is to
get a good starting spot after qualifying and work our way to the front
of the field."
