Airbiquity Joins Renesas Technology COMET Alliance

SEATTLE--Airbiquity, a company that develops wireless in-band modem software products, has joined the COMmunity Enabling Telematics (COMET®) alliance, a partnership program developed by Renesas Technology America, Inc., a US subsidiary of the leading semiconductor provider in the global telematics market.

Airbiquity was invited to join the COMET program as a result of the successful integration of their aqLink in-band software modem onto the Renesas SH-4A processor platform.

Airbiquitys aqLink in-band modem software uses the voice channel of any wireless network to rapidly and reliably transport high-value and mission-critical data during the course of a wireless voice conversation. The Renesas SH-4A processor is already widely used in existing OEM navigation systems and Bluetooth hands-free kit products and is also ideal for next-generation telematics systems.

Making our aqLink software available on the SH-4A platform greatly expands our ability to provide a highly scalable, low-impact data transport solution to automotive OEMs and their Tier 1 suppliers, said David Jumpa, vice president of global business development for Airbiquity. The aqLink software allows them to easily broaden the range of telematics services they can provide to their customers both at lower cost and with reduced development time.

"Airbiquitys aqLink product adds a key technology to the COMET program for enabling wireless data communication using existing voice channels," said Paul Sykes, marketing manager, automotive business unit, Renesas Technology America, Inc. "COMET will continue to expand its members and deliver highly integrated building blocks for developing sophisticated telematics systems."

About the COMET alliance

The COMET (COMmunity Enabling Telematics) alliance, a Renesas-sponsored organization launched in 2002, brings together companies that cooperate to promote car information system (CIS) applications and support developers of automotive systems that use Renesas SuperH processors. The 21 alliance members provide operating systems, middleware, and similar technologies for Renesas telematics reference platforms (protocol stacks, interfaces, speech-recognition software, echo cancellers, storage-related products, and more), while Renesas focuses on chip development and platform development. COMET is a registered trademark of Renesas Technology America, Inc. in the United States. www.comet-alliance.com
