Real Time Traction Tool (RT3(TM)) Eliminates Guesswork in Winter Road Condition Evaluation
NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio, Oct. 11, 2006 -- Developed by Halliday Technologies and marketed by Cargill Deicing Technology (CDT) as part of its winter maintenance equipment offerings, the patented Real Time Traction Tool (RT3(TM)) measures road friction conditions in real-time and provides invaluable insight during snow and ice events.
By providing real-time data on surface traction during all types of winter weather, the RT3(TM) enables municipalities to more effectively evaluate and react to current roadway conditions. The RT3(TM) also makes it possible to measure the effectiveness of deicing and anti-icing products, adjust application rates and eliminate over application to save money while ensuring safe roads.
"We are convinced that integrating the RT3(TM) into our winter maintenance program will allow us to make significant progress in the efficient deployment of our resources. With the RT3(TM), we are able to map and observe real-time friction conditions around two of our main cities, Columbus and Cleveland, during winter events. Because of this data, we are investigating ways of alerting the public when dangerous road conditions exist," reports the Ohio Department of Transportation.
The RT3(TM) is attached directly to a vehicle by a trailer hitch or mounted on the undercarriage. The friction-testing wheel follows the wheel path of the vehicle and by use of the patented GEM Hub(TM) technology displays the current fiction levels of the road on an easy to read display in the cab of the vehicle.
With the addition of optional equipment, such as a global positioning satellite (GPS) system, the RT3(TM) can be even more effective by sending real-time reports on road conditions to a secure website then map the results to further streamline road service operations.
