TrafficGauge® Selects Acacia to License Wireless Traffic Information Technologies
SEATTLE--TrafficGauge, which recently was issued a second U.S. patent for its innovative technology that delivers traffic information to in-vehicle devices such as the TrafficGauge® Mobile Traffic Map and GPS navigators, has selected Acacia Research-Acacia Technologies Corporation as its licensing partner.
“TrafficGauge was the first company to deliver traffic data via broadcast technology, now we see it’s the technology of choice,” said TrafficGauge CEO and Founder Ryan Peterson. “We’re pleased to have earned the legal protection for our growing portfolio of intellectual property and know that we have we found nobody more capable than Acacia to monetize our patent portfolio.”
This patented technology generally relates to transmitting, receiving, and displaying traffic information on portable handheld and mobile displays. It covers a variety of wireless distribution methods, such as FM radio and satellite, as well as the devices used to display the traffic maps. This technology enables users to identify traffic congestion and can be used with in-vehicle navigation displays and portable handheld units such as cell phones and PDAs.
“TrafficGauge is a technology pioneer and leader in wireless traffic information delivery,” said Dooyong Lee, Acacia Technologies Group Executive Vice President, Business Development. “We are pleased to have been selected to license and enforce TrafficGuage's patented technology in this rapidly growing technology sector.”
The invented technology allows traffic data to be collected from various means, and sent wirelessly to hand-held and mobile devices to visually display highway traffic maps. This wireless solution allows TrafficGauge to provide an affordable option to frustrated commuters to view traffic maps in-vehicle on navigators and hand-held devices. TrafficGauge has been selling products based on the invention for three years and has validated the usefulness of the products based on the patents.
“Our products have been a hit in Seattle, LA and San Francisco, and more recently Singapore, with additional markets as well as services currently in development and preparing to launch,” said Peterson. “Looking into the future to the day when all automobiles and GPS navigation units would include traffic information, it is reassuring to know that the work we have put into inventing, designing, and marketing our products are protected.”
About TrafficGauge
TrafficGauge® is the first real-time mobile traffic map initially launched in Seattle where TrafficGauge is headquartered. TrafficGauge’s always-on, fixed screen map gives drivers an overview of freeway grids and pinpoints traffic slowdowns to help drivers make better decisions for their commute. Data for TrafficGauge is sourced from department of transportation wire loop sensors embedded in freeways. Founded in 2001, privately-held TrafficGauge has launched practical time-saving TrafficGauge Mobile Traffic Map in Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Singapore, with more cities to follow. Additionally, TrafficGauge also provides a free PC download that shows traffic information for over a dozen cities, and currently is in BETA-testing for its TrafficGauge for Cell Phone application in those cities as well.
