Primus Geographics Builds NAVTEQ(R) Map Data into Geocoding and Drive Time Software
Agreement is Part of Primus' Location-Based Business Intelligence Offerings
CHICAGO, Oct. 9 -- NAVTEQ , a leading global provider of digital map data for location-based solutions and vehicle navigation, has been selected as a map data supplier by Primus Geographics Inc., a leader in the Business Intelligence Through Geography(TM) technology sector. Primus Geographics will use NAVTEQ data to power both the open source Portfolio Explorer geocoder software and SRC's Portfolio Guzzler drive time engine. Both of these applications will incorporate NAVTEQ data and take advantage of the comprehensive detail and quality of NAVTEQ content where previous map information had limitations. Customers will now generate business models and analysis with higher levels of fidelity and reliability.
Primus Geographics will integrate NAVTEQ data into the open source Portfolio Explorer geocoder software and will additionally create a Software Development Kit (SDK) for developers to access this geocoding platform. The resulting application provides a cost effective way to utilize NAVTEQ's comprehensive database to determine the appropriate location for new retail centers, branch offices and other assets.
Additionally, Primus Geographics has also integrated NAVTEQ map data into the new Portfolio Guzzler drive time engine developed by SRC. The Portfolio Guzzler engine is addressed-based and follows the actual road network, creating specific boundaries. It accurately analyzes any geographic information with designated drive times from a specific location e.g. 5, 10, 15 minute drive times around an existing or potential retail location, cell phone tower, or other property. Unlike other drive time engines that deviate from real road networks, arbitrarily cutting through neighborhoods and areas that are not drivable, such as bodies of water, Portfolio Guzzler follows the road network exclusively. Using NAVTEQ map data and advanced routing capabilities, along with Primus' user interface, the Portfolio Guzzler engine yields accuracies demanded by today's geomarketing and business intelligence industries.
Combined, these two software products deliver important location intelligence processing enabling businesses to make smart decisions about their existing assets and where to locate future assets.
NAVTEQ employs one of the industry's most comprehensive development and quality control programs for the highest levels of excellence and precision. NAVTEQ's database is developed and continually updated by a team of approximately 600 geographic analysts. The database includes detailed attributes from turn restrictions, one-way streets and speed categories that can be used to help optimize routing. Additionally, NAVTEQ maps include Points of Interest such as restaurants, shopping centers and leisure facilities.
"The blending of these proven technologies accelerates the quality of geocoding and drive time / distance to new levels of accuracy," states Guy Larson, President, Primus Geographics. "Integrating an industry leading geocoding platform and the latest drive time engine with NAVTEQ's premier street product delivers the results our clients expect."
"The collaboration between NAVTEQ and Primus Geographics is a natural fit due to Primus' depth of knowledge and expertise in implementing geospatial business intelligence solutions," comments Roy Kolstad, Vice President and General Manager - Business and Government Solutions, NAVTEQ. "As location intelligence solutions continue to expand, the industry demands an accurate and equally expansive infrastructure to support its growth. NAVTEQ provides map data that allows government and commercial organizations to better manage their operations and critical assets. Primus is building this critical data into products and services, allowing clients to work with precise, up-to-date information."
