NHRA South Central Summit Finals Sunday from Texas Motorplex

SOUTH CENTRAL SUMMIT FINALS CROWNS CHAMPIONS
            ENNIS, Texas - Racing is complete at the NHRA South Central
Division Summit Racing Series Finals held this weekend at Texas
Motorplex.  Four lucky individual winners will now have the opportunity
to travel to the NHRA Finals in Pomona to compete against the winners
from NHRA's other six divisions and will receive a cash award of $3,500.

            The Super Pro champion was Jeff Lopez of Bedford, Texas
racing for the home track, Texas Motorplex.  Lopez made a final run of
7.707 seconds at 157.14 mph to beat Steve Collier of Benton, La.,
representing Red River Raceway. 
Brian Hughes of Longview, Texas also from Red River Raceway took home a
trophy in the Pro category with a time of 10.513 seconds at 126.09 mph.
Hughes defeated Bryce Isaacs of Rusk, Texas, racing for Cherokee County
Motorsports Park.  In the South Central Division the Super Pro and Pro
winners compete in a runoff for the chance to race at the NHRA finals in
Pomona.  In the runoff, Hughes defeated Isaacs with a final pass of
10.528 seconds at 120.63 mph to earn the chance to travel to Pomona.
In the category of No Electronic Quick, Jeff Hefler of Kennedale, Texas
was the big winner racing for Wichita Raceway Park.  Hefler beat Charlie
Olson of Midwest City, Okla., in the final racing for Thunder Valley
Raceway Park.
Martin Brown of State Capitol Dragway in Louisiana took home the No
Electronic Street trophy with a pass of 12.338 seconds at 107.56 mph.
Brown edged out Ronald Blase of Denton, Texas, racing for Denton
Dragway.
In the Motorcycle category, Michael Nash of Texarkana, Texas, racing for
Red River Raceway, found the winner's circle with a final pass 9.330
seconds at 131.22 mph.  Nash defeated Don Hrometz, of Temple, Texas
racing independently.
Thunder Valley Raceway Park out of Noble, Okla., took home the team
trophy, while Texas Raceway in Kennedale, Texas was the runner-up.  The
team spirit award went to co-champions Texas Raceway and Wichita Raceway
Park.
