American Hot Rod:
The Fine Art of The Custom Hot Rod
William Scheller

American Hot Rod is the Discovery Channel's popular weekly window on the glory and the grind of custom car building at Boyd Coddington's Garage. Creator of some of the finest one-of-a-kind hot rods of the past four decades, Boyd has also assembled a top-flight team of craftsmen, who each week demonstrate the passion, pride, and exacting attention to detail that are built into these dream machines. American Hot Rod: The Fine Art of The Custom Hot Rod, a lavish new book published by Hugh Lauter Levin Associates in conjunction with the Discovery Channel, offers a unique look at the exacting standards, the painstaking labor, and the finished products that set the Coddington name apart.

American Hot Rod chronicles the long, colorful history of hot rods, street rods, and custom cars, machines that transcend mere transportation to express the highest levels of technical skill and artistic imagination. Written in a lively, engaging style, the text is based on interviews and on-the-spot observations that reveal how Boyd Coddington became a hot rod legend-and how his team of talented individualists get the work done at his garage. The book's more than 200 pages are generously illustrated with oversize custom photographs of the artisans at work, and of over twenty-five of the finest Coddington creations-cars seen on the TV show, as well as spectacular privately-owned vehicles that have rarely been revealed to a wide audience. These colorful grille-to-rear-deck portraits and fit-and-finish closeups make American Hot Rod: The Fine Art of The Custom Hot Rod the next best thing to placing a custom order at Boyd Coddington's Garage.

American Hot Rod: The Fine Art of The Custom Hot Rod enables the history of America's beloved hot rod and the hit series to be cherished and enjoyed at home in a stylishly sleek volume. The custom cover design will be inspired by the show's personalities and capture the spirit of the show.

William G. Scheller is the author of more than 20 books, including American Chopper: The Fine Art of the Custom Motorcycle. A two-time finisher in the 7,000-mile One Lap of America transcontinental automobile rally, he is co-author of the cult classic Manifold Destiny, which launched the craze for cooking on car engines; and collaborated with public television car expert Brad Sears on the book Last Chance Garage. He and his wife, Kay, are authors and publishers of Best Vermont Drives, a guide to their adopted state.
