PA Governor Rendell Signs 2 Bills

HARRISBURG, Pa., Oct. 4, 2006 -- Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell today signed into law the following bills:

House Bill 2498, sponsored by Rep. Charles McIlhinney, (R-part of Bucks Co.), amends Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, providing for a Gold Star Family registration plate. The plate will be available to family members of persons killed while serving on active duty, provided that the proper documentation and a fee of $20 is provided to the Department of Transportation.

The bill passed the House 194-0 and the Senate 50-0. The bill takes effect in 60 days.

Senate Bill 1055, sponsored by Sen. Robert Regola (R-Westmoreland), authorizes and directs the Department of General Services, with the approval of the Governor and the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, to accept by donation a tract of land and any improvements on the tract, located in Penn Township, Westmoreland County; and authorizes the Department of Transportation, with the approval of the Governor, to grant and convey to AMFIRE Mining Company, LLC the right to remove coal underlying a certain highway right-of-way located in Cresson Township, Cambria County; and authorizes the Department of General Services, with the approval of the Governor, to grant and convey to the Allentown Commercial Industrial Authority a 36-acre tract of land located in the cities of Allentown and Bethlehem.

The bill passed the House 191-0 and the Senate 49-0. The bill is effective immediately.
