Case, Maple Grove Raceway Accept
NHRA Challenge from Infineon Raceway
READING, Pa. (Oct. 4, 2006) - George Case, vice president and general
manager at Maple Grove Raceway, has accepted the Pro Stock Motorcycle
challenge issued by Infineon Raceway in Sonoma (Calif.) with open arms.
Maple Grove Raceway and Infineon Raceway are considered the two fastest
quarter-mile drag strips in the country for the Pro Stock Motorcycle
class in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
Following this past weekend's record-setting event in Reading (Pa.),
Infineon Raceway President and General Manager Steve Page issued a
challenge to Case for the 2007 season: the facility that posts the
quickest elapsed time for a single run in Pro Stock Motorcycle takes
bragging rights.
Case has accepted the challenge and is putting up Shoo-fly pie for the
entire Infineon Raceway staff. Shoo-fly pie is a traditional
Pennsylvania-Dutch dessert that is renowned in the area around Maple
Grove Raceway. Page is wagering a case of premier Sonoma Valley wine.
"We may be more traditional out here on the East Coast, but we've
cultivated a strong following for the Pro Stock Bikes and we certainly
know how to go fast out here," said Case. "We're looking forward to a
great challenge next year, and enjoying our case of Sonoma wine."
Maple Grove holds the current national record for elapsed time, set by
Angelle Sampey (6.939 seconds) this past weekend, and also had the
quickest Pro Stock Motorcycle field in history. Infineon Raceway had
owned those records prior to this past weekend's Toyo Tires NHRA
Nationals. Moreover, there have been 22 six-second runs in the history
of the Pro Stock Motorcycle class, 10 coming at Maple Grove and eight at
Sonoma.
It's a tailor-made grudge match, one that will be settled on the drag
strip during the 2007 NHRA POWERade Racing Series season. Infineon
Raceway hosts the FRAM Autolite NHRA Nationals, July 27-29, with Maple
Grove hosting the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals, Aug. 16-19.
"Everybody likes to sit around and bet on the game, and to have two of
our super tracks issue a challenge is just fantastic," said Steve
Johnson, who rides the Snap-on Tools Suzuki. "This is great for the
awareness of the Pro Stock Motorcycles and I know it will make all the
riders want to try that much harder at both Infineon Raceway and Maple
Grove Raceway in 2007."
