Norwalk Raceway Team Wins IHRA Division 5 Summit Team Finals
Norwalk, Ohio-"Team Norwalk," the season's best racers from Norwalk Raceway
Park (http://www.NorwalkRaceway.com), staged an exciting come-from-behind
effort to win the IHRA Division 5 Summit Team Finals at U.S. 131 Motorsports
Park. The victory came Sunday, October 1.
"It was one of the greatest comebacks in the history of sports," said Team
Captain Bill Bader Jr., president of Norwalk Raceway Park. "This was a
tremendous team effort. The team was awesome, and it was a storybook
finish."
Team Norwalk had a commanding 30-point lead after the first round, but then
watched it quickly disappear in the second round when Milan Dragway took
over the top spot. By the third round Team Norwalk was down 13 points and
Milan Dragway was poised to win it all. But in a Hollywood-styled plot
twist, Team Norwalk racers were paired against Milan racers in later rounds
and began their comeback.
"We were paired against the Milan Dragway racers and started picking them
off one by one. We had to overcome a 13-point deficit and ended up with a 10
point margin to win. I'm so incredibly proud of this team," Bader said.
Top five final point standings out of 15 total tracks were: Norwalk Raceway
72 points; Milan (Michigan) Dragway 62 points; Byron (Illinois) Dragway 60
points; Osceola (Indiana) Dragway 48 points; and Eddyville Raceway Park
(Oskaloosa, Iowa) 43 points.
Capping the night was an all-Norwalk final in the Street class, with Dan
Doell winning over Gary Hurst to become the IHRA Division 5 Street E.T.
World Champion.
Norwalk racer Ricky Baehr, the 2005 Summit Super Series No Box World Champ,
won his final round in Modified to be named the IHRA Division 5 Modified
World Champion.
