Sprint Nextel Spotlight

*      Fans to Decide "NEXTEL Most Dramatic Moment" Through Nine-Week Voting Process

Enhancements, including changes to the voting process, have been made to the "NEXTEL Most Dramatic Moment," the only fan award announced during the annual NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Awards Ceremony and epitomizes NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series racing excitement at its best. The award will be presented live during the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Awards Ceremony, Dec, 1, on TNT.

The voting process will now include an initial round of voting throughout the Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup. Round 1 of voting will take place Sept. 28 - Oct. 17 and will conclude with the top moment of five advancing to the final round. Round 2 of voting will take place Oct. 18 - Nov. 19 and will allow fans to advance an additional moment from five into the final round. The final round of voting will take place following the season-ending Ford 400 event at Homestead-Miami Speedway beginning on Nov. 20 and ending Dec. 1 culminating in the fans choice for the 2006 "NEXTEL Most Dramatic Moment."  

 

*      Sprint Nextel All-Access Employee Event

More than 14,000 Sprint Nextel employees and their families attended the Sprint Nextel All-Access Employee Event Wednesday, Sept. 27 at Kansas Speedway. Held in the Sprint Fan Walk, the event was designed to showcase the company's sponsorship of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series and give employees a behind-the-scenes view of the sport. 

In addition to food, music, show car displays, pit-stop demonstrations, games and prizes, guests were treated to special appearances by NASCAR President Mike Helton, FOX personality and former crew chief Larry McReynolds and NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series drivers Kyle Busch and Greg Biffle. ESPN's Mike Massaro emceed the event.

Sprint Nextel in the Community

*      Sprint Nextel and Motorola Team Up for Grassroots Diversity Program

Sprint Nextel and Motorola will sponsor a new, comprehensive educational and instructional program designed to encourage African American, Hispanic and other minority youth to explore the business and employment opportunities associated with NASCAR.

The new program, called Driving Opportunities - Minority Outreach in Racing Employment or DO MORE, targets male and female students ages 8-20 in Atlanta. It will launch Oct. 13 and provide in-depth instruction on auto racing, allow the youth to experience racing at the Andretti Indoor Karting and Games facility, and take participants to Atlanta Motor Speedway for an up-close and personal look at the motorsports industry.

*      Tee Time Set for Homestead-Miami Speedway's Inaugural Celebrity Golf Classic Presented by Sprint Nextel

 

Homestead-Miami Speedway will play host to the inaugural Homestead-Miami Speedway Celebrity Golf Classic presented by Sprint Nextel on Wednesday, Nov. 15. The Classic will be held at the world famous Doral Golf Resort and Spa and all proceeds from the event will benefit The NASCAR Foundation, The Bouniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis (the Miami Project) and the Betty Jane France Speediatrics center at Homestead Hospital.

 

The Homestead-Miami Speedway Celebrity Golf Classic presented by Sprint Nextel is open to amateur golfers who may enter as individuals or as part of a foursome. The entry fee of $750 is a tax deductible contribution to the NASCAR Foundation.

*      How many different points leaders have there been in the previous two years in the Chase for the NEXTEL Cup?

NEXTEL Wake-Up Call Lineup

*      Talladega Superspeedway

Matt Kenseth, driver of the No. 17 DeWalt Ford, will participate in the NEXTEL Wake-Up Call on Friday, Oct. 6 at 10:30 a.m. EDT. 

*      Lowe's Motor Speedway

Kasey Kahne, driver of the No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge, will participate in the NEXTEL Wake-Up Call on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 1:30 p.m. EDT.  Please note that this is Thursday as opposed to Friday.

*      Martinsville Speedway

Scott Riggs, driver of the No. 10 Valvoline Dodge, will participate in the NEXTEL Wake-Up Call on Friday, Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. EDT. He will be followed at 10:30 a.m. EDT by Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 11 FedEx Chevrolet.

*      Atlanta Motor Speedway

Jimmie Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet, will participate in the NEXTEL Wake-Up Call on Friday, Oct. 27 at 2:45 p.m. EDT.
