Kansas Tim Sauter Rewind

Kansas Tim Sauter Rewind

Sept 30th, Kansas Speedway. Tim Sauter and the Lester Buildings team
had several close calls with no less than five accidents happening on
the track directly in front of the #36 during the Yellow
Transportation 300 at the Kansas Speedway. Unlike several other races
this year, Sauter was fortunate not to get collected in any of the
incidents and brought home the Lester Buildings Chevy in 25th position.

Tim qualified the #36 fielded by McGill Motorsports 30th in the 43-
car field with a lap of 31.96 seconds. At the drop of the green
Sauter quickly moved up to the 26th spot, but as the laps wore on,
the handling started to go away and he slid back to the 32nd position
when the first round of pit stops came on lap 28.

Sauter’s first close call came on lap 36 when Jerry Robertson spun
right in front of him, and had another shortly thereafter when Brad
Coleman spun and hit the wall hard on lap 46. Following a red flag to
clean the track, Sauter re-started on lap 52 in 23rd place.

A long green flag run followed and Tim was able to stay out longer
than most of the lead lap teams, reaching as high as 8th place in the
running order following the halfway point of the race. The Ricky
Pearson led-crew was hoping for a caution, which would leave Sauter
as one of only a dozen cars on the lead lap. Unfortunately the
caution did not happen and Tim was forced to make a green flag stop,
leaving him two laps down to the leaders in 28th place.

Sauter continued to run two laps down to the leaders throughout the
balance of the event, finishing in 25th position. He narrowly missed
several other wrecks in the second half of the race, nearly getting
collected in a multi-car incident with only six laps remaining.
Nextel Cup drivers who swept the top nine positions dominated the
race, with Kevin Harvick winning his seventh race of the year.

“It was one of the days where everything was close,” Tim said after
the race. “Our car was close, we had several close calls on the track
and we were close to making that pit strategy work at the halfway
point which could have gotten us a top-15 finish. We were lucky to
not get caught up in any of those wrecks today, because this is the
same car we plan to bring back to Charlotte in a couple of weeks.”

The NASCAR Busch Series teams have a week off prior to the Dollar
General 300 under the lights at Lowes Motor Speedway on Friday,
October 13th.
