THOMAN CLAIMS REGIONAL MIDGET TITLE AT WET BERLIN
Scott Thoman didn't need rain Saturday at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich. to claim his first USAC championship, but it came anyway.
Nevertheless, the Indianapolis native left the track with the USAC Regional Midget Car Series title, besting Travis Young by 66 points after rain washed out the final feature of 2006.
Prior to the scheduled 25-lapper, Young, Justin Overfelt and Jeremy Warren picked up eight-lap heats. Thoman finished second in his heat behind Young. All he had to do was start the feature event heading into the race to clinch the title.
Young was second in the standings, ahead of Brian Olson, Bryan Clauson and Bobby Smith.
