MARTZ EYES PAVEMENT FOCUS TITLE AT ANDERSON;

LAST-LAP GAS CITY PASS NETS NOBLITT 1ST USAC TITLE

            Jordan Noblitt claimed his first career USAC title Friday at Gas City I-69 Speedway, two points ahead of two-time Focus champion Tate Martz.

            But Martz, of Rushville, Ind., will try to avenge that second-place finish with another championship this weekend at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway.

            Noblitt claimed second behind Martz in the Gas City feature - the season finale in the Midwest Ford Focus Dirt Midget Car Series - after taking the spot on the final lap and picking up the key three extra points when Tony Main slid wide, giving up the runner-up spot. Despite leading the final 22 laps and winning the feature, as well as his heat race, Martz couldn't keep Noblitt at bay.

            Chett Gehrke sandwiched himself between Noblitt and Main to take third, while David Burdes, making his only Focus start on the season, finished fifth after leading the opening eight laps.

            Martz will look to pick up the Pavement title Sunday, as the series finishes its season with the two-day race. A start will lock up the title for Martz, who won the previous two Midwest championships when they were comprised of both dirt and pavement.

            Martz will continue his on-track fight with James Robertson, who claimed the Indiana Ford Focus championship in August.
