WESTERN MIDGETS IDLE UNTIL OCT. 21 AT MADERA;

HANSEN DUSTS OFF VENTURA FOES

 

 

            Jerome Rodela of El Monte, Calif. will resume his pursuit of a repeat championship in the USAC Western Midget Series Oct. 21 at Madera (Calif.) Speedway. He leads Chase Barber by 101 points in the latest standings. The two finished 12th and 19th respectively in Saturday night's 30-lapper at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway.

 

            Garrett Hansen of Manhattan Beach, Calif. won Saturday's Ventura feature, leading the final 14 laps after passing Greg Bragg on lap 17. Chris Rahe finished second ahead of Bragg, Ryan Kaplan and John Sarale. Josh Lakatos also led during the feature but finished 18th.

 

            Rodela is bidding to become the first repeat series champion since Sleepy Tripp swept three straight from 1990-1992.
