EGGUM TAKES HOT ROD FINAL AND SETS RECORDS AT NHRA SPORT COMPACT
FALLNATIONALS

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Stephanie Eggum (Elgin, Ill.) added to her record
setting driving by winning the Hot Rod final of the NHRA Sport Compact
Fallnationals presented by Toyo Tires at Old Bridge Township Raceway
Park.

Other winners were Norris Prayoonto (Honda Tuning All Motor), Jorge
Lazcano (Modified), Ed Bergenholtz (Pro FWD), and Brad Personett (Pro
RWD).

Eggum had set the time record on Saturday with the first run under eight
seconds for a Honda. On Sunday, she had ideas of going even further
lower and faster. In the final she drove her Honda Civic to a national
record time and speed of 7.90 seconds at 184.25. By setting a new
national record Eggum added 20 points to move her closer to her final
round opponent Ron Lummus who ran 8.26 seconds at 171.27 mph.

"We've been racing everybody," Eggum said, "but to beat Garrett and
Lummus is another thing. Beating them was huge. I was ahead at the
start with a light that was good for this car. If this team doesn't
deserve (WD-40) Crew Chief of the Year then I don't know who does. The
nobodies are taking down the titans. Can someone sponsor us now,
please?"

Prayoonto (Springfield, Va.) continued his final round domination of
points leader Jeremy Lookofsky in Honda Tuning All Motor with his
Clutchmasters Honda Insight. In final rounds this year Prayoonto is 4-0
against Lookofsky. This was all accomplished after Lookofsky
red-lighted. While most drivers would drive comfortably to the finish,
not Prayoonto, he drove to a national record time of 9.56 seconds at a
speed of 140.90.

"This means we can only go quicker," Prayoonto said. "Our goal is to
finish off the season with a bang like other teams have done in the
past. We had been anticipating 50's all week. This weekend every pass
we got it right."

Lazcano (San Juan, Puerto Rico) was able to get his Mazda RX7 to the
finish line for his third win of 2006 and his fourth career win. He
beat his fellow Puerto Rican driver, Miguel Manero, with a speed of 7.49
seconds at 180.19 mph. Manero had an equally fast 7.68 seconds at
175.52 mph, but was not able to catch Lazcano.

"I am happy," Lazcano said. "The competition was very strong. We
showed we were the best. I want to thank Joyeria Santa Juanita, Pica
Motors, Oso Performance, Edwin Loquito, Chivy King Race Cars, and all
the crew."

There were some national records set in Modified. Angel Rodriguez set
the time record at 7.32 seconds and Justin Humphreys set the speed
record at 187.16 mph.

Bergenholtz (Tustin, Calif.) was able to extend his points lead in Pro
FWD as he seeks his second consecutive NHRA World Championship. He was
able defeat Ron Townsend in a not so pretty final by going 9.11 seconds
at 188.31 mph. Both drivers had a difficult time getting their cars to
go, but Bergenholtz was able to get his car in gear and finish ahead of
Townsend.

"For me this was a storybook race," Bergenholtz said. "First round was
where the most stress was. That run against Marty (Ladwig) was big. It
was the championship. I can't believe it, Englishtown was the
championship. I got three gifts this weekend; the points lead, the win,
and we were quicker than we've been."

Personett (Elkhart, Ind.) just kept right on rolling through his season
seventh win in 2006 and 13th career win. He drove his Titan Motorsports
Scion tC against season-long rival Matt Scranton. This was a tough race
and it looked like Scranton may win, but Personett drove quicker with a
time of 6.68 seconds at 185.84 mph.

"We were working on things all weekend," Personett said. "We still had
a handful with the car. We knew that the track was only going to get
better (after the morning rains). I want to thank G-Force Transmission
and Mike Long, Harry Hruka from Precision Turbo. Without them we
wouldn't be able to do it."

The NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Racing Series will next be at Auto Club
Raceway at Pomona in Pomona, Calif., Oct. 21-22, for the Nitto NHRA
Sport Compact World Finals. All professional categories will have their
NHRA World Champion crowned at this race.
