*Line No. 4 at rain-plagued NHRA Toyo Tires Nationals*
MOHNTON, Penn. (September 30, 2006) -- The rains returned to Maple Grove
Raceway but not before Pro Stock completed three qualifying sessions --
two yesterday and one today. The fourth and final qualifying session
remaining was canceled and the field is now set for the rain-plagued
NHRA Toyo Tires Nationals.
Pro Stock point leader Jason Line, who has lead the NHRA POWERade Pro
Stock point standings since Denver, qualified his KB Racing LLC-owned,
Summit Racing Equipment-backed Pontiac GTO in the No. 4 position on the
final qualifying ladder with a pass of 6.633 seconds, a career best
elapsed time, at 208.14 mph.
"I really felt that [teammate] Greg [Anderson] should have been number
one and set the record but Stanfield did his job and took it away," said
Line following the cancellation of the final round of qualifying. "The
only good that did come out of Greg moving from one to two is that now
we're on opposite sides of the [qualifying] ladder and if we both do our
jobs and these Summit Racing Pontiacs continue to perform like they have
all season then we can't meet until the final round.
"I still think that there is an opportunity for one of us to set the
record tomorrow. The air will be good enough but it all depends on the
race track. As for me, I need to go to the finals tomorrow. I need to
race focused. Even though two other guys have different ideas, I'm
still planning on winning this championship."
With qualifying over, Line leads the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock point
standing by 76 points over teammate Greg Anderson, who holds the second
position, and by 143 points over third place Dave Connolly entering
eliminations tomorrow.
Line squares off against Larry Morgan, who qualified No. 13, in the
first round of elimination. Morgan qualified with a pass of 6.653
seconds at 206.86 mph.
Line begins his quest for the Toyo Tires Nationals Pro Stock title
tomorrow, Oct. 1, with eliminations for all classes beginning at 11
a.m. *Time is local Reading time (ET) and subject to change at anytime.*
*Television Times:* ESPN2/ESPN2 HD will air same-day television coverage
