Fuller No. 3 qualifier at rain-postponed Maple Grove event
READING, Penn (Sept. 30) -- Returning to the quarter mile after a runner-up finish
last week in Dallas, Top Fuel driver "Hot Rod" Fuller is primed for another trophy run at the rain-postponed Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals. Fuller, driving the Valvoline/David Powers Homes entry put the field on notice with a 4.526-second, 327.11-mph blast down the Maple Grove quarter mile that placed him third in the field.
Unlike the rainy conditions that greeted racers and visitors alike two weeks ago, fans and racers were treated to near-perfect weather conditions during first and second round qualifying on Friday, contributing to some world record numbers in two of the four professional categories. But sprinkles returned on Saturday, eliminating the fourth and final qualifying session.
"I don't think the weather could have been any better Friday," Fuller said. "Seems like we've been waiting for this all season long and it couldn't have come at a better time. We bumped back into the top five in the points standings last week and now we have our sights set on fourth. The guys have this Valvoline machine on rails and I think you're going to see another great weekend from this David Powers team."
Final elimination coverage of the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals will be provided by ESPN2 Sunday from 7-10 p.m. Eastern.
