PhillyCarShare First in Nation to Offer Free Memberships

PHILADELPHIA--PhillyCarShare has announced effective immediately a highly anticipated change in its pricing structure, which now offers all its membership plans with no application fee, no membership dues for the Basic Freedom plan and no use-it-or-lose-it commitments. Now with no barriers to joining the car sharing service, these changes are expected to save members more time and money. PhillyCarShare is the first car sharing service in the nation to offer this free pricing structure.

Were excited to give the Philadelphia community easier access to our award-winning car sharing experience by inviting them to join for free and be members for free, said Executive Director, Tanya Seaman. Whether corporate, residential or our newest initiative with younger drivers, our memberships are now even more cost-effective, convenient and user-friendly.

In addition to business and residential members, PhillyCarShare recently became the first and only car sharing service in the nation to offer membership to drivers aged 18-20, regardless of college status.

Rates start at $5.90 per hour, which covers gas, insurance, parking and child seats. For more information on PhillyCarShares new pricing structure, please visit the website: www.phillycarshare.org.

About PhillyCarShare: PhillyCarShare is Philadelphias first and only car sharing service. Launched in 2002, the non-profit organization operates a rapidly growing fleet of Prius hybrids, Minis, BMWs, pickups, wagons, and more, from more than 40 neighborhood locations known as pods. Each member receives a personal key, 24-hour access and the ability to reserve any car of choice online. Members report saving an average of $4,000 each year and choosing to walk, bike, and take public transit more often. The City of Philadelphia joined PhillyCarShare in 2004, becoming the first government worldwide to share cars with local residents in a major fleet reduction effort. The pioneering project has helped replace 330 municipal vehicles, saving taxpayers $2 million annually. PhillyCarShare was also the first in the nation to offer memberships to all drivers 18-20 as well as free memberships. For more information, visit www.phillycarshare.org or call 215-730-0988.
