Inaugural Susquehanna Showdown on Saturday at SSP; Open Practice on Friday Night

Inaugural Susquehanna Showdown Scheduled for  Saturday, September 30 at SSP; Open Practice on Friday Night

NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (September 26, 2006) - The Inaugural Susquehanna Showdown will feature 50-lap feature (all green flag laps with no scheduled fuel stops) for the Late Models and a 20-lap feature for the ARDC Midgets and the Mini Vans presented by York Haven Auto Sales.  There will also be qualifying heat races and last chance qualifying races for the Late Models and ARDC Midgets.  A roll call will be taken at the Drivers Meeting for all Mini Van Drivers and anyone not attending the meeting will not be permitted to race.

The Late Model feature event will pay $3,000.00 to the winner and is sponsored by Insinger Performance Fuels and JTM Tire & Alignment.  All qualifying will be done through heats, C-Main and B-Main events.  There will be an inversion drawn for the feature event.  A blind draw will determine the heat race lineups.  An entry fee is required and an entry form may be downloaded from sspracing.net under "Downloads."  Specification rules may also be found on the Susquehanna Showdown Flyer on the Website.

Late Model heat races are presented by Blazer's Body Shop and pay $25.00 to win, $15.00 for second and $10.00 for third.

In the Late Model feature event, the winner will receive one-(1) complimentary Hoosier Spec Racing tire from Miller's Racing Parts in Mechanicsburg and W&W Racing Tires.  The feature winner, 4th place finisher and 10th place finisher will receive an AFCO coil over spring compliments of Bernheisel Race Cars and Miller's Racing Parts.  Also, Bernheisel Race Cars gift certificates will be presented to the following finishers: 3rd - $75; 5th - $50; and 7th - $25. 

One-(1) complimentary Hoosier Spec Racing tire from Miller's Racing Parts in Mechanicsburg will be awarded to the Hard Charger of the Late Model race.  The Hard Luck Award of $100.00 will be presented "In memory of Gary Miller from your wife and daughters."  The feature lap leader at lap 15 and lap 35 of the feature will each receive a $100 bonus from KRS Graphics in Mechanicsburg.

Hoosier Late Model Spec tires are the only tires allowed with compounds D35 or D55 only (Can run on any corner).  The only sizes permitted are 88.0, 90.0 and 92.0.  

 

The ARDC Midgets will compete in their final SSP Points Championship race, however it will not be the final event as they are scheduled to compete on Saturday, October 21 and Saturday, October 28 as well.   There are still nine drivers capable of winning the track championship with Donnie Trent, Steve Lenig and Eric Heydenreich leading the way. 

 

On Saturday, gates will open for both the pit area and grandstand area at 12:00 p.m.  Warmups begin at 2:15 p.m. with racing action beginning at 3:00 p.m.    

 

Grandstand ticket prices are $12.00 for adults and teens (13 years of age and older) and children (12 & under) are free.  All children (12 & under) will receive a gift certificate good for an ice cream dessert compliments of any participating Applebee's Neighborhood Bar & Grill.  Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a minimum age requirement of 14 years of age.  

 

Entry forms and flyers for the Late Models may be found at sspracing.net under the "downloads."  The raindate is Sunday, October 1 if needed with the same time schedule.

 

There will be an open practice for all SSP classes on Friday Night, September 29.  All types of full size racecars may attend the open practice which includes Sprint Cars, Super Sportsman, Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Classic Cars, Vintage Cars.  Even full size racecars that are not currently scheduled at SSP may participate as all classes will rotate with track time throughout the evening.  The only smaller than full size racecars that will be permitted are the Legends Cars, Four Cylinders, 600cc Micro Sprints and ARDC Midgets.  

 

On Friday, gates open at 5:00 p.m. with open practice from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  The grandstands will be open for free to the public during the practice session.  The cost for the pits will be $10.00 per person with a minimum age requirement of 14 years of age.

SSP News and Notes:

- Reward for Vandalism & Theft - There is a $500.00 reward for information that leads to the arrest of those individuals responsible for the theft and vandalism occurring on the speedway grounds on Thursday night, August 31.  This was day one of the York County Nationals featuring the Sprint Cars.  The reward will be given after the successful conviction of those individuals responsible for these acts.

 

- Speedway Flea Market Continues Every Sunday - The "new" Speedway Flea Market continues every Sunday morning 6:00 a.m.  There will be plenty of things for everyone.  Vendor fees are $10.00 per day and setup begins at 5:30 a.m.  Space will be limited to a "reasonable" amount for each vendor.  Food and drink vendors are not permitted.  This flea market will continue every Sunday throughout the rest of the year.

 

- 2nd Annual Pumpkin 200 on Saturday, October 7 - On Saturday afternoon, October 7, the Susquehanna Speedway Park will host the 2nd Annual Pumpkin 200 Enduro race.  As a bonus attraction, the Great American School Buses, Classic Cars and Mini Vans will take to the track before the 200 lap Enduro event.  Fans will also be given complimentary school bus rides around the track at 12:30 p.m.  The Enduro event will follow the specifications for the Xtreme Stock Car division that ran weekly at SSP during the 2006 season.  

 

The Pumpkin 200 event will be 200 laps regardless of the number of entries.  The purse payout will be based on entry numbers: 75 or more entries: 1. $1,000.00; 2. $600.00; 3. $500.00; 4. $350.00; 5. $250.00 / 61 - 74  entries: 1. $700.00; 2. $500.00; 3. $400.00; 4. $300.00; 5. $200.00 / 51 - 60 entries: 1. $600.00; 2. $400.00; 3. $300.00; 4. $200.00; 5. $150.00 / 41 - 50 entries: 1. $500.00; 2. $300.00; 3. $200.00; 4. $150.00; 5. $100.00 / 31 - 40 entries: 1. $400.00; 2. $200.00; 3. $150.00; 4. $100.00; 5. $  75.00 / 30 or less entries: 1. $300.00; 2. $150.00; 3. $100.00; 4. $  75.00; 5. $  50.00.

The starting positions for the Pumpkin 200 will be aligned through a blind draw at the pit gate on the day of the event.  As a special bonus, all pre-entrants will be able to draw a second time for a starting position if he or she does not like their first draw for position.  However, the entrant must take the second drawn spot regardless of whether or not it is a better starting position. - 3rd Annual Millers Racing Parts Fall Classic on Friday and Saturday, October 20 & 21 - The popular 3rd Miller's Racing Parts Fall Classic has been expanded to a two day show for 2006. 

The Friday night, October 20 show will consist of qualifying heat races for Street Stocks and Four Cylinder Stock Cars along with a 25-lap Xtreme Stock Car "Rookie Rumble" race and 15-lap Mini Van "Super Oval" race.

Gates will open on Friday for both the pit area and grandstand area at 5:00 p.m.  Warmups begin at 6:45 p.m. with racing action beginning at 7:30 p.m.    

 

Grandstand ticket prices on Friday are $8.00 for adults and teens (13 years of age and older) and children (12 & under) are free.  All children (12 & under) will receive a gift certificate good for an ice cream dessert compliments of any participating Applebee's Neighborhood Bar & Grill.  Pit pass prices are $15.00 with a minimum age requirement of 14 years of age.   Two day pit passes for Friday and Saturday will be $30.00.

The Saturday, October 21, the show will feature a 50-lap features (all green flag laps with no scheduled fuel stops) for the Street Stocks, Four Cylinder Stocks and Xtreme Stock Cars.  There will also be last chance qualifying races for the Street Stocks and Four Cylinder Stock Cars.  Heats and a feature for the wingless ARDC Midgets has also been rescheduled for Saturday, October 21.

The Street Stock feature event will pay $3,000.00 to the winner and is sponsored by Insinger Performance Fuels, Miller's Racing Parts and Salisbury Mechanical Services.  All qualifying will be done through heats, C-Main and B-Main events.  There will be an inversion drawn for the feature event.  A blind draw will determine the heat race lineups.

Street Stock heat races are presented by Dellinger's Auto Body in Mechanicsburg and pay $25.00 to win, $15.00 for second and $10.00 for third.  All heat race winners will also receive a $50.00 gift certificate from any participating Applebee's Neighborhood Bar & Grille.

The Street Stock feature winner will receive a gift certificate for two-(2) complimentary meals per month for the next 12 months from any participating Applebee's Neighborhood Bar & Grille and one-(1) complimentary Hoosier Racing tire from Miller's Racing Parts in Mechanicsburg.  The Hard Luck Award of $100.00 will be presented "In memory of Gary Miller from your wife and daughters."  The Hard Charger Award will receive a $50 bonus compliment of KRS Graphics in Mechanicsburg.

The Four Cylinder Stock Car feature event will pay $1,500.00 to the winner.  All qualifying will be done through heats, C-Main and B-Main events. The Hard Charger Award for the Four Cylinders will receive a $50 bonus compliment of KRS Graphics in Mechanicsburg.

The Xtreme Stock Car feature event on Saturday will pay $500.00 to the winner.  All Xtreme Stock Cars entered will run the main event.  A blind draw will determine the feature lineup.  The Hard Charger Award for the Xtreme Stock Cars will receive a $50 bonus compliment of KRS Graphics in Mechanicsburg.  The Xtreme Stock Car "Rookie Rumble" feature will be on Friday. - 2nd Annual Candy Bowl on Saturday, October 28 - The 2nd Annual Candy Bowl presented by J&K Auto Salvage will be held on Saturday, October 28.  This event will feature the wingless ARDC Midgets, 600cc Micro Sprints, Legends Cars, Lincoln Thundercars, W.O.W. (Women on Wheels) Stocks Cars.  After the event, all teams are encouraged to stay for trick or treating in the pits with all kids in costumes.  All children (12 & under) should be in costumes for the trick or treating after the races.

- Racecar Flea Market on Saturday, November 4 - SSP will host a racecar flea market with all forms of racing welcome on Saturday, November 4.  Vendor fees are $10.00 per day and setup begins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night.  Plenty of "bargains" for the 2007 season will be available.

 

 

- 3rd Annual Turkey 200 on Saturday, November 11 - On Saturday afternoon, November 11, the Susquehanna Speedway Park will host the 3rd Annual Turkey 200 Enduro race.
