RE: R. Sorenson No. 41 NicoDerm CQ Smart Control Dodge
Advance for Yellow Transportation 300 at Kansas Speedway 09.30.06
Please note the Iowa test date for Montoya is on Friday, September 29,
not Thursday (as stated below and on our website). Sorry the confusion.
Our website story is being updated, too. Thanks! - AC

No. 41 NicoDerm CQ Smart Control Team Fast Facts:
* Second-Half Comeback?: The No. 41 Chip Ganassi Racing with
Felix Sabates (CGRFS) Busch team could be labeled the comeback kids this
second half of the 2006 NASCAR Busch Series season. Since the team
passed the half-way hump of the season in Daytona, Reed Sorenson and
team have scored four top-five and seven top-10 finishes in 11 starts
(season total is currently five top-five and 11 top-10 finishes). Up to
June 30, the team's average finish was 22nd, and since Chicago their
finishes are averaging around 13th. They have jumped from 21st to ninth
in the standings, as well (Sorenson is 10th in the driver standings).
* Montoya, Welcome Aboard!: CGRFS announced Monday Juan Pablo
Montoya has been released from his Formula One contract and officially
joined the world of stock car racing, beginning with the ARCA/ReMAX
Series test session at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway earlier this week.
Montoya is also scheduled to test with the ARCA/ReMAX Series at Iowa
Speedway in Newton, Iowa this Thursday, September 28. Ganassi announced
in July Montoya had signed a multi-year deal with the CGRFS organization
to compete in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series beginning in 2007. When the
Colombia, South America native assumes the driving duties of the No. 42
Texaco/Havoline Dodge Charger next season, he will be the first Formula
1 regular to go NEXTEL Cup racing full-time. Stay connected to
www.chipganassiracing.com <http://www.chipganassiracing.com/> for
further news and updates.
* In Smart Control at Kansas: The No. 41 CGRFS Busch entry
will take on a new look this weekend at Kansas Speeedway to represent
NicoDerm CQ Smart Control-which is a GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) nicotine
patch that helps smokers, who wish to quit smoking, work through their
withdrawal from nicotine. The special paint scheme is the fifth and
final run of the 2006 five-race partnership between GSK and the CGRFS
Busch team. One of the GSK stop smoking products-Nicorette, NicoDerm CQ
and Commit-can be seen on board with Reed Sorenson every weekend as an
associate sponsor, but NicoDerm CQ Smart Control will take center stage
on the No. 41 Dodge this Saturday. This is GSK's second season as a
sponsor of CGRFS. To learn more about the pharmaceutical company and
its products, go to www.gsk.com <http://www.gsk.com/> .
* Sorenson Puts on the Brakes to Help Educate: This Thursday,
leading into the NASCAR competition at Kansas Speedway and another
special paint scheme weekend featuring NicoDerm CQ, Sorenson is planning
to visit a local middle school in the Kansas City, Mo., area to help GSK
and the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids communicate the educational
message about the dangers of smoking. He will also help recognize some
students for their efforts in increasing prevention and education about
nicotine addiction. Note: Please contact the CGRFS media relations
department for more information.
* Quitting Time: After a successful run with the CGRFS team
last season, GSK launched a "QUIT CREW" program earlier this year that
involves a smoking cessation initiative to help NASCAR team members quit
smoking. In addition to stomping out the cigarettes inside the NASCAR
garages, GSK also is on a mission to utilize its involvement with the
popular motor sport to help increase awareness for millions of race fans
about effective quit smoking therapy. Free quit smoking counseling and
the No. 41 NicoDerm CQ race simulator have visited numerous NASCAR races
this year and will be at Kansas this weekend in the fan interaction
display area just outside the speedway. To see a mix of quitting tools
and to learn more about the QUIT CREW program, go to www.quit2win.com
<http://www.quit2win.com/> .
* Another Lift Up: After the tumultuous top-10 finish at Dover
International Speedway last Saturday, the No. 41 CGRFS Busch team took
another step up in the NASCAR Busch Series championship standings. The
team now stands ninth in the owner ranks, just 87 points out of eighth.
Sorenson held on to his 10th-place position overall and is only eight
points out of ninth in the driver standings.
* On the Cup Side: Sorenson's 11th-place finish at Dover on
Sunday, helped him and the No. 41 Target team move up one position-to
21st-in the overall NASCAR NEXTEL Cup standings. They are now 52 points
out of 20th heading into this weekend's Banquet 400 at Kansas Speedway
on Sunday, October 1. Sorenson still stands third in the NEXTEL Cup
Raybestos Rookie race. He trails leader Denny Hamlin by 73 points and
second-place, Clint Bowyer, by 24.
* Chassis: Crew chief Brian Pattie and the No. 41 NicoDerm CQ
Smart Control team selected chassis #556 to run at Kansas Speedway this
weekend in the Yellow Transportation 300. Its most recent run was at
California Speedway earlier this month when the team finished 19th
(started 17th) after battling a tight-handling condition a majority of
the night race. In June, the same car helped Sorenson and the CGRFS
team average a 10th-place running position the entire 200-lap race at
Dover International Speedway before finishing it just the same-in 10th
place (started 16th). The same car was entered in a total of five
events in 2005, and helped the team score a total of four top-five
finishes (at both Dover races, Kentucky and the second Texas race).
Sorenson comments on heading to Kansas Speedway: "I was just thinking
the other day where the guys and I were at this point last year in the
Busch Series. We were a little bit better off than we are right now.
We were sitting in third place and now we are sitting ninth and 10th,
which isn't bad by any means. In fact, we've gained a lot over the
second part of the year. There are still setbacks here and there, but
we really seem to be hitting our marks more now than we did early on.
"I like running these one-and-a-half-mile tracks. We had a good run at
Chicago and a great run going at Kentucky before falling out. Chicago
is a good example of how the second-half of this year has been going for
us and Kentucky is a good example of how the first- half went.
"But we had a good run at Kansas last year. There were a lot of wrecks
and we managed to stay out of trouble which is sometimes the major key
to having a good day, avoiding everyone else's misfortune or mistakes."
