San Francisco Mayor Newsom to Spotlight Bay Area's Clean Diesel Bus Program
WHEN: Tuesday, September 26, 2006 1:30 p.m. NOTE NEW TIME! WHAT: More than 1,700 diesel buses from 13 Bay Area transit agencies are being retrofitted with diesel exhaust purifiers manufactured by San Leandro-based Cleaire Advanced Emission Controls. Nearly 1,400 buses already have been retrofitted. Most of the 340 remaining devices are scheduled for installation by the end of 2006. Combined, these high-tech emission control filters each year capture more than 50 tons of particulate matter and 436 tons of oxides of nitrogen, a precursor to ozone.
