NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Saturday from Champion Raceway - National

FEDERLIN, HOUGH EARLY WINNERS AT CHAMPION RACEWAY

EAGLE POINT, Ore. - Top Alcohol Dragster pilot Steve Federlin and Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Brian Hough took home trophies Saturday night at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Northwest Championships presented by Snap-On Tools Les Schwab at Champion Raceway. All other categories finished qualifying and will begin eliminations on Sunday.

Federlin of Oregon City, Ore., remained consistent throughout the weekend, finishing with a final run of 5.449 seconds at 260.51 mph to defeat Chris Demke of Sunland, Calif. Demke ran a pass of 5.551 seconds at 259.61 mph to place second.

Hough of Junction City, Ore., finished with a final run of 5.755 seconds at 250.13 mph to overtake Joey Severence of Fife, Wash. Hough has now won three of his last four divisional races that he has entered. Severance, with a pass of 6.015 seconds at 242.71 mph, finished second in his first divisional race driving a Top Alcohol Funny Car.

Dave Barcelon of Bremerton, Wash., overtook Rob Harrison of N. Vancouver, B.C., to qualify in the No. 1 position in Comp Eliminator. Barcelon ran 8.499 seconds in a '06 Cobalt while Harrison ran a pass of 7.938 seconds in a '05 Cavalier.

Stock Eliminator racer, Joe Sorenson of Woodburn, Ore., qualified on top driving a '69 Camaro with a pass of 11.100 seconds. Alf Wiebe of Richmond, B.C., driving a '70 Buick qualified in the second position.

Super Stock driver, Jimmy DeFrank of Chatsworth, Texas, topped the field with a qualifying pass of 8.936 seconds driving a '98 Grand Am. Mike Blackstone of Castro Valley, Calif., took the second spot with a time of 9.016 seconds.

Shawn Cowie of Richmond, B.C., continued to run well qualifying first in Top Comp. Cowie edged out Quentin Chambers of Bellingham, Wash., who ran a 6.767 second pass while Cowie ran a pass of 6.499 seconds.

In the Sportsman Motorcycle category presented by Harley Davidson, John Widman of Garberville, Calif., qualified with a perfect 0.000 reaction time to take the No. 1 position over Brett Hordemann of Spokane, Wash., who qualified second with a reaction time of 0.001 seconds.
