NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Friday from Champion Raceway- National

EAGLE POINT, Ore. - The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Northwest Championships kicked off today at Champion Raceway. Top Alcohol Dragster Pilot, Steve Federlin and Top Alcohol Funny Car Driver, John Weaver, qualified on top. This is the last Northwest Divisional race of 2006.

Federlin of Oregon City, Ore., got off to a quick start qualifying first with a pass of 5.457 seconds at 261.88 mph. In the second qualifying position is Chris Demke of Sunland, Calif., who ran 5.462 mph at 260.01 mph.

Weaver of Newport Beach, Calif., driving a '04 Camaro qualified on top in Top Alcohol Funny Car with a pass of 5.850 seconds at 240.98 mph. Ken Kraus of Great Falls, Mont., took the second position in a '02 Camaro with a pass of 5.886 seconds at 242.28 mph.

In Comp Eliminator, Dave Barcelon of Bremerton, Wash., took the first position with a pass of 8.499 seconds in a '06 Cobalt. Qualifying next was Rob Harrison of N. Vancouver, B.C., driving a '05 Cavalier.

In Super Stock, Mike Blackstone of Castro Valley, Calif., qualified first and Sean Cour of Brush Prairie, Wash., qualified in the second position. Also qualifying on top was Joe Sorensen of Woodburn, Ore., who made a pass of 11.223 seconds in Stock Eliminator. Sorenson topped Bill Kost of Renton, Wash., who qualified in second.

Shawn Cowie of Richmond, B.C., qualified in the No. 1 position in Top Comp, while Quentin Chambers of Bellingham, Wash., qualified in the second position.

In the Sportsman Motorcycle category presented by Harley Davidson, Brett Hordemann of Spokane, Wash., driving a '95 Kawasaki qualified in the first position over Jeff Havens of Yakima, Wash., who qualified in the second position.

Racing continues Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Final eliminations for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car are scheduled for 3:00, 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and children 8 to 14 are $10.
