NHRA Summit Racing Series Northeast Division Finals-Thursday from Maple Grove Raceway
NHRA NORTHEAST DIVISION SUMMIT RACING SERIES FINALS ARE ON TRACK AT MAPLE GROVE RACEWAYREADING, Pa. - The top drivers in NHRA's Northeast Division Summit Racing Series have converged on Maple Grove Raceway to compete for team and individual honors at the 2006 Summit Racing Series Northeast Division Finals. The event will continue Friday and Saturday. Drivers in Super E.T., Pro Eliminator, Street and Motorcycle/Snowmobile as well as a High School category represent 14 tracks vying for top honors and a share of the $46,720 purse. Competitors in the High School Eliminator class presented by Luzerne County Community College are running for trophies.
Gates at Maple Grove Raceway open at 7 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Time trials continue Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Racers in the High School category will run at 8 p.m. Eliminations start Saturday morning at 8:30.
Friday's action will feature the Race of Champions, a race within a race that will pit the top points-earning drivers from each track in head-to-head competition. First round of eliminations in the Race of Champions starts Saturday at 4 p.m.
The winners in Super E.T., Pro Eliminator, Street and Motorcycle/Snowmobile will advance to a national run-off in November at the NHRA Auto Club of Southern California Finals at Pomona Raceway in Pomona, Calif. Each category winner will square off against the NHRA Summit Finals champions from NHRA's other six divisions for a winner-take-all $5,000 purse. Each of the drivers who advance to Pomona will receive an additional $3,500 for competing at Pomona Raceway.
