Astrata Delivers Singapore's Hazmat Vehicle Tracking And Homeland Security System

System will Protect Singapore from the Threat of Terrorism

SINGAPORE, Sept. 20 -- The innovative vehicle tracking system created for the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) by Astrata Group Incorporated (OTC BB: ATTG) has now been commissioned, handed over and accepted by Singapore's Government, it was announced today.

After nearly a year of System integration, deployment, testing and training, the countrywide hazmat vehicle tracking system is set to play a prominent role in Singapore's expanded homeland security program.

Under a contract awarded to Astrata Singapore, more than 700 vehicles have now been fitted with the small, intelligent tracking device, which is smaller than a mobile phone. Vehicles entering the country from Malaysia that are transporting hazardous materials must also be fitted with a portable tracking device, which is attached via magnets to the roof of the vehicle, but secured within seconds. Over 200 of these Rapid Deployment Units (RDU), which were specifically designed for SCDF, are now in use.

Singapore's SCDF Commissioner, James Tan commented: "The deployment of such an advanced, state-of-the-art system on commercial vehicles is the first such application in the world. Singapore's Civil Defense team and Astrata have been extremely professional and hard working in bringing this system to fruition. I have no doubt it will make Singapore an even safer place to live and visit."

Martin Euler, Chief Executive for Astrata commented, "We are delighted that this groundbreaking system has now been accepted by the Singapore government. Singapore is the leader in the monitoring and control of vehicles carrying hazardous materials, which form a major risk to both security and safety. This benchmark homeland security system continues to create interest from countries throughout the world as the threat from these cargos, particularly in urban areas, is recognized."

Created by Astrata Group Incorporated, SCDF's vehicle tracking and security system uses the very latest technology and is capable of tracking more than 10,000 vehicles at a time using the Global Positioning System (GPS) and the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSMC). It can also track vehicles in tunnels and underground facilities using a method that computes the location of a vehicle in areas without a GPS signal.

Background information:

The Singapore governments' new regulations require more than 2,000 petro- chemical and pharmaceutical companies importing, transporting and storing large quantities of flammable materials to obtain SCDF licenses. Vehicles can travel only along 60 approved routes away from highly populated areas at specific times, to reduce the impact of any possible disaster. If a vehicle strays from its path or makes an unregulated stop, the Hazmat Transport Vehicle Tracking System will trigger an alarm, mobilizing emergency forces. It will also alert authorities if the device has been tampered with.
