MIDGETS INVADE SHASTA RACEWAY PARK SATURDAY;
HANSEN AGAIN TOPS AT BAKERSFIELD
Shasta Raceway Park in Anderson, Calif. plays host to a USAC "doubleheader" Saturday featuring the Western Midgets and Sprint Cars. Jerome Rodela is set to continue his drive toward a second consecutive USAC Western Midget Championship.
Rodela finished second behind Garrett Hansen in Saturday night's 30-lapper at Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway and has a comfortable 107-point cushion over Chase Barber in the new standings. Barber, Saturday's fastest qualifier, finished 12th at Bakersfield.
Rain has interrupted two of the last three USAC events slated at Shasta so participants are eager to challenge the 1/3-mile paved oval. A 30-lap USAC/BCRA Midget and 50-lap USAC/CASA Sprint feature are on tap.
Robby Flock led the opening lap at Bakersfield, then yielded to Hansen, the Manhattan Beach, Calif., driver who led the rest of the way to solidify his fourth-place point ranking. Trailing runner-up Rodela at the checkered flag were Scott Pierovich, Flock and Chris Rahe.
