Tony Leis Salem Recap

Leis Gains Valuable Experience at Salem; Frustrated with Finish

For Immediate Release

(9/17/06 - Salem, IN) - Rookie driver Tony Leis gained some valuable
experience behind the wheel at Salem Speedway in the ARCA RE/MAX Series on Saturday.
Leis turned in a lap of 18.434 sec / 108.387 mph in Pork Pole Qualifying,
putting the Hydro-Cool / Volden Construction Ford solidly in the field in the
23rd starting spot and when the checkered flag waved Leis was credited with a
28th place finish.

Although Leis finished 144 laps of the 200 lap Eddie Gilstrap Motors ARCA
Fall Classic, the 28th place finish wasn't what he and the Bob Schacht
Motorsports crew were looking for heading into the high banks at Salem. Tony along
with crew chief Bob Schacht were looking to make it through to the end
completing all 200 laps and were working their way toward that and acquiring the laps
needed for Leis to become comfortable behind the wheel of the ARCA car on a
short track. However, with all of the usual short track fender rubbing and
banging going on it became a challenge. Leis stepped up and met it with the
ability of a veteran, driving hard among the ARCA regulars, showing he has what
it takes to be competitive in the ARCA RE/MAX Series.

However, while battling off turn 2 and down the backstretch, Leis was sent
spinning off the bumper of the #59, and into the wall, doing heavy damage to
the Hydro-Cool / Volden Construction #24 and Tony and the BSM crew were
finished for the night and credited with the 28th place finish.

"I learned a lot here tonight." Said Leis, "This track is an awesome place
to race, I was having fun there for a while and we were having a pretty good
run, I was so pumped up coming into this race and knew we had a good car, it's
just a shame we didn't get to finish the entire 200 laps." Leis added, "This
was still a really sweet opportunity for me and I'm just glad that (Bob)
Schacht and the whole team have given me this chance, I guess I'm just a little
frustrated with the outcome."
