Ophthonix Partners with Liz Halliday, American Le Mans Series Star; Maker of iZon(TM) Eyeglasses Accelerates Entry into Motor Sports and Link between Driving and Vision
SAN DIEGO--Sept. 18, 2006--Ophthonix announced at VisionExpo West in Las Vegas, the largest optical professional meeting held annually, it will partner with Liz Halliday, famed female driver in the American Le Mans Series to represent the iZon brand."The Le Mans series is an ideal platform to highlight the driving vision benefits provided by iZon," said Andreas Dreher, PhD, president and CEO of Ophthonix. "The ALMS includes endurance races with night and day driving and races on difficult road courses with challenging corners. This is an example of when optimal vision and performance are key."
One important benefit of the iZon High Resolution Lens is the significantly improved performance it provides for driving - especially a clinically demonstrated improvement in reaction time when driving at night.
"Partnering with Liz will help us to spread the word about vision and driving and how our lenses help driving performance and safety," said Dreher. "There is a large and loyal fan base for the American Le Mans Series and we are excited to join those fans." Dreher added that Liz will drive her races wearing the iZon High Resolution glasses. "She was a good candidate for the lenses and we think she'll see a difference out on the track in clarity and response time. Seeing clearly with high definition is a competitive advantage when you have to make split second decisions on the race track or on the road."
Dreher explained that motor sports fans are the most loyal of any sport and targeting them is part of a national launch. "We believe athletes like Liz and fans like those in motor sports can help iZon become the standard in vision correction." Dreher said that Liz will represent iZon at several appearances including trade shows and events and will be featured in ads and videos advertising iZon as well as do publicity for the brand. "We are proud to be associated with Liz Halliday," said Dreher.
Introduced on the West Coast during the second quarter of 2005, iZon High Resolution Eyeglasses are available in two types - one for consumers who need correction for just distance vision and a second for those needing correction for both near and distance vision. The iZon brand is presently being introduced in markets throughout the US and globally.

About Liz Halliday
Liz Halliday is a 27-year-old native Californian, now based in Surrey, England, where she dedicates her life to the pursuit of not one, but two international sporting careers: on the one hand she is an international motor racing driver who competes in sports car racing; while on the other, she is an international equestrian in Three-Day Eventing. She has two ambitions: first, to become the first female driver to win the famous Le Mans 24-hour race ... and second, to claim Olympic Gold with the USA equestrian team in 2012. This extraordinary sportswoman has already taken the first few steps towards one of these with her rapid and impressive ascent up the motor racing ladder. Last year - in her first season of international sports car racing at 'prototype' level - she claimed 3 impressive class wins in the LMP2 category, finished 4th in class in the final drivers' standings, won the Dailysportscar.com Rookie of the Year Award, and helped co-driver Clint Field lift the LMP2 drivers' title.
Having achieved all this success with the Intersport squad, she re-signed with the team for 2006 and the success story continued: a superb class win and second overall behind Audi at Sebring was followed by two more wins in Houston and Portland, with podiums in every other race this year. Having led the P2 championship until round 7 at Road America, she and team mate Clint Field now lie third - just a few points behind the factory Porsche drivers. Liz is now officially the most successful female driver ever in the history of the series with 6 class wins.
Liz has competed twice in the Le Mans 24 Hours - the most famous endurance motor race in the world. Despite dominating the LMP2 category last year, Liz's team was robbed of any potential victory by engine failure 11 hours into the race. At time of retirement they held a huge 3 lap lead over their nearest class rival and were running 11th overall out of the 50 car field. This year, running as the only female driver, she managed to complete the race, finishing 4th in class, despite engine problems throughout.
On the equestrian front, her drive to mount the top step in the Olympics will also be helped or hindered by 'horsepower'. She has recently taken delivery of a talented young horse who she feels could give her a realistic shot at the USA Equestrian Team, given the right training regime and the luck that every sporting star needs. Despite the challenge of competing in both sports simultaneously, Liz is equally determined to succeed as a driver and equestrian, and is prepared to work hard and make sacrifices to reach her ultimate goals.
