Bloomington Speedway -- September 22, 2006 Racing Program
(Bloomington, Ind. - September 17, 2006) It's been a great season at Bloomington Speedway. Mike Miles and his crew have done their best all season to provide the fans with great motorsports entertainment. As much as we hate to see it end, we are at that time. It's time to run our final race. As usual, our final program will be the Annual Indiana Super Stock and UMP Modified Nationals. However, one thing is different this season. This season the final race will pay points. Since the awards will be presented at our awards banquet in November, we will finally be able to award points for this final show.
While awarding points for the final program is certainly a change worth touting, there is an even bigger change. We are adding two additional races; and the final entry list for them won't be determined until minutes before they are to take the green flag. The first race is the Monroe County SERVPRO Modified Hard Charger Race. We have compiled a list of the drivers who have gained the most positions during the feature event all season. The hard chargers so far have been Matt Bex (3 times), Matt Boknecht (3 times), Jeff Bland, Jr. (3 times), Ray Humphrey, Kent Robinson, John DeMoss, J.D. Roberts, Greg Deckard, Jesse Cramer, and Josh Eads. To this strong field of drivers will be added the hard charger from the September 22 feature. While some of the drivers have been the hard charger three times and others only one, there is no advantage in multiple awards except that it might have prevented another fast driver from making the race. The starting lineup will be determined by a pill draw. The 12 lap will pay a winner take all $1000 purse courtesy of Monroe County SERVPRO.
The second additional race is the Hoosurtrucking of Indiana Super Stock Second Ten Championship Race. This race will feature the cars finishing 11 through 20 in the Tire & Wheel Center Super Stock points standings. As with the hard charger race, the lineup will be determined by a drawing held immediately before the race.
On September 22, we will put the spotlight on O'Neal Wood Products Open Wheel Modifieds and the Tire & Wheel Center Super Stocks. Because the focus is generally on the sprint cars, these great competitors don't always get the attention that they deserve. We've seen fans leave early and miss the best racing of the evening. While these guys are mostly budget racers; there are lots of great racers among them; and what they may lack in financing, they more than make up for in enthusiasm and desire to win. On Saturday night they will be center stage with no distractions.
This program may well pull more cars than any show this season. The winner of each class will receive $1250, assuming the proper decals are displayed on his mount. Also, the payoff is higher than normal all the way back. Each driver who makes one of the features will receive a minimum of $100. And, on top of all of this, there will also be lap prize money paid. With this amount of money up for grabs, just about every car in the state should show up at Bloomington Speedway.
The O'Neal Wood Products Modified championship is up for grabs going into this final show. Kent Robinson leads John DeMoss by a single point. Matt Boknecht is 14 points further back; and Jeff Bland, Jr. is within range 16 points further back.
If Seymour's Jeremy Hines shows up Friday night, he is the 2006 Tire & Wheel Center Super Stock champion. The points standings further back are tighter however.
Gates will open at 3:00 PM, Awards presentations will be made at 6:00 p.m. followed by hot laps followed immediately by racing. There is a $25 per car entry fee. Grandstand admission for this special show is only $12. Children 5 and under are admitted free while children 6-12 are admitted for only $5; and pit admission is only $25. Overnight camping is permitted as are coolers. No Glass please.
